Hegseth in the news?

HEGSETH ON DEFENSE: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is braced for further accusations of turmoil and dysfunction in his department today after a barrage of Easter weekend revelations sparked fresh calls for him to be fired. POLITICO last night published a damning op-ed by newly-departed Pentagon spokesperson John Ullyot — who had served Donald Trump in various senior roles since 2016 — describing “total chaos” and “disarray” at the DOD under Hegseth’s leadership, and suggesting Hegseth’s departure is all but inevitable. That came less than two hours after the NYT revealed Hegseth had shared top secret battle plans for an imminent U.S. attack on Houthi rebels in another unsecured Signal chat group — this one containing his own family members. Another tricky week lies ahead.

First read this: Ullyot’s exposé, witten less than 48 hours after he left his job as the Pentagon’s top spokesperson, is scathing about the state of the department. “The building is in disarray under Hegseth’s leadership,” he writes. “The dysfunction is now a major distraction for the president.” Ullyot bemoans a succession of scandals and revelations, concluding: “It’s hard to see Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth remaining in his position for much longer.” POLITICO’s Paul McLeary writes it all up.

Signal/noise: Ullyot’s decision to go public came shortly after the NYT’s Greg Jaffe, Eric Schmitt and Maggie Haberman revealed the existence of a second Signal chat group in which Hegseth apparently shared details of the attack on Houthi rebels on March 15. As with the original Signalgate scandal, Hegseth shared the details in advance of the attack, the NYT says, thus potentially jeopardizing the outcome. But this time, the story adds, he did so in a Signal group he’d set up himself on his personal phone called “Defense | Team Huddle.” And its members were not exactly Cabinet-ranking officials.

John Ulllyot wanted the Pentagon spokesman spot that Sean Parnell was given.

Now he’s gone and spilling the tea...good move by Hegseth.

The desperation by the left smells big time- they are grasping desperately at straws, hoping to create a crisis where none exists because they don’t have anything legitimate to gripe about. They just end up looking pathetic. Polutico apparently doesn’t mind looking pathetic and desperate

The push back against all these changes from this administration is going to be extraordinary over the next few years, everything is going to be negative, negative, negative and it will be a long time before we will actually see the positive results.

I’ll stick with my theory that Hegseth is SMOKING OUT the bastards that are trying to undercut him. It is not credible to believe that Hegseth would make the same mistake as Waltz made (assuming it was a mistake), so more is going on than we’re told.

I believe the Demoncrats would rather cause this Republic to die in violence believing the people would then proclaim them the victors and sweep them from the dust into eternal control forever.

President Trump should tell Pete. STFU or you’re fired.

Not much meat on the bone with this story, but they did mention Hegseth will be fired about 50 times, so I guess that is their true “story”.

There are huge numbers of corrupt officials and officers at DOD who have been riding the gravy train, enforcing DEI, and who have never been held accountable for 30 years of failures.

That's what this is about, and more subtly, to prevent Trump from gaining full control of the military. They really hope that if necessary there will be a military coup.

Was this position vacated after the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle? No? Ok then, who cares.

I don’t believe much of it. The Signal chat stuff is just noise. The pentagon may be described by some people as being in “disarray” but those people could just be the ones who preferred the status quo. Change can bring many resentments. So big grain of salt on this one.

The old, “Name your target, and freeze it” trick. The people bitching and moaning are leftist who hate Hegseth and the military. Keep firing them. When one is told to keep info confidential, the line is drawn.

Compare this with how Politico characterized Biden’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan that resulted in more than a dozen American soldiers and more than a hundred civilians being killed:

“Republicans have since tried to make the withdrawal a political albatross to hang around Biden’s neck, leading Democrats to defend him on the committee dais and beyond.”
https://www.politico.com/news/2024/03/19/republicans-afghanistan-withdrawal-00147886

Noticed how it is about the “Republicans”?

“The Trump and Biden administrations made mistakes with their crisis management before and during American troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan, a State Department report released Friday found.”
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/06/30/afghanistan-withdrawl-report-state-department-00104467

They actually blamed Trump.

“Americans don’t rank foreign policy as one of the top issues facing the country. So why is the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal still hovering over Biden?... All did not go as planned.”
https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2022/08/17/biden-afghanistan-withdrawal-anniversary-00052268

It weas really no big deal anyway, according to Politico.

TBH, I have never cared for Hegseth, but the way they have piled on over his appointment tells me he is the perfect choice for the job.
