Next stop: Trump Station
President Trump fired the MTA from the long-awaited revamp of Penn Station on Thursday, instead putting the feds in charge of a gold-plated makeover for the decrepit transit hub.
Amtrak will spearhead the renovation as the feds champion a “public-private partnership model,” announced Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
“President Trump has made it clear: the days of reckless spending and blank checks are over,” Duffy said in a statement.
“New York City deserves a Penn Station that reflects America’s greatness and is safe and clean.”
Gov. Kathy Hochul had been engaged in tense face-to-face talks with Trump over Penn Station — and recently reportedly joked about renaming it after him to get more federal cash for the project.
Making Penn Station great again has been a years-long dream – and nightmare – for New York leaders.
The feds’ surprise move puts two long-gestating, parallel Penn Station projects – one to reconstruct the crumbling building and another to expand it rail capacity — under the same umbrella.

There’s just nothing my neighbors in Mahalasville, Indiana, would rather pay taxes for than a palatial train station in New York City.
Over 500,000 passengers per day use Penn Station.
Since Trump is yanking this from the MTA, then I trust Trump will get the job done right and make sure we get our money’s worth.
The MTA is a cesspool.
8 MTA Workers Got $200K in Overtime as Total OT Neared Record High
Overtime costs at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) last year surged to nearly $1.3 billion, up from $1.1 billion in 2021 according to data posted today on SeeThroughNY, the Empire Center’s government transparency website....
Everything in N.Y. City is expensive, and it’s not the same city that Rudi Giuliani left. There are still some amazing places in the city, but you have to be willing to watch where you step in order to get to one and watch your back. After dark you better have a friend or two. Unless you have the bucks and can be chauffer driven to and from. I am only an hour to an hour 1/2 away, but no desire to go there. A damned shame caused by liberal idiots.
“public-private partnership “
Sounds good
It does when Trump does it. :-)
A damned shame caused by stolen elections.
If Gotham would vote for this, why does NYC now have RCV...,
After many years of democrat leadership, NYC has once more returned to the cesspool that it’s really always been. Rudy cleaned it up to a great degree, Bloomberg at least tried to maintain it, but then the dems took over with the usual results.
“public-private partnership model” is the problem. This is what Dems do. Take public assets like parks, stations, etc. and privately manage them for themselves as money making operations with a cut going to the government. They get control of the public asset then turn around and charge for entrance, no-contest concessions and for-pay services. All which used to be free or very little cost.
Dems run govt for their benefit not the public’s.
“Over 500,000 passengers per day use Penn Station.”
Charge them $1.00 a head to pay for the renovation. In a year you’ll have $180,000,000.
L
THIS!
Users should, of course, have skin in the game.
But if you’re familiar with what’s gone on the the Bills’ new stadium, then you’ll understand why I am very glad Trump has bigfooted this project.
Exactly. Once again the New York City socialists have taxpayers throughout the country paying for infrastructure in New York City.
...just like taxpayers paying for the socialists in Europe.
...MTA spends over $7 billion a year on procurement, covering everything from construction contracts to office supplies. Under the Public Authorities Law, the MTA was required to create a Transformation Plan by June 30, 2019...
Note the timing on that last bit, BTW.
Not a coinkydink.
It’s going to end up like the Rollman Skating Rink story!!
We need three things in NYS.
Secure elections.
Public corruption prosecuted.
And NYS DOGEd.
And with Trump in charge, the station should look like a thing of beauty and not a hulking monument to bureaucracy designed by Frank Lloyd Wrong.
