Scientists with the Alaska Volcano Observatory have said that Mount Spurr, a volcano located roughly 80 miles from Anchorage, is likely to erupt in the coming weeks or months based on elevated seismic activity.
In the event of an eruption, scientists said, it’s highly possible ash will make its way to Anchorage, causing issues with air quality and possibly disrupting travel.
Anchorage Animal Care and Control (ACC) took to Facebook to remind pet owners of what to do for their pets to help prep for an eruption. They said anyone who has a pet with preexisting eye, nose, skin or respiratory conditions should talk to their vet about how to protect their furry friend during an eruption.
With that, Anchorage residents have been not only buying protective equipment for themselves, but also for their pets. These items include respirators, booties and goggles for their dogs.

He doesn’t have a surgical mask...he’ll get the ‘rona and die.
And just like that, I’m suddenly grateful for the current Appalachian pollen fest going on here
😳
I met some very nice people from Alaska at my friends’ house for Thanksgiving dinner. Parents of our host and an aunt and uncle. I asked whether they were always cold, but they said no, the climate was moderate. Also said they weren’t afraid of volcano erupting, as it hadn’t for a long time.
Hope the Zimmermans will be OK.
He already can barely breathe, being brachycephalic.

And that was 45 years ago.
Golly, the volcano is still quiet.
Much ado about nothing.
Check the Alaska Volcano Observation page.
I thought it would be cool to see a volcano erupt until I saw a volcano erupt. I was in Baraloce and a mountain in Chile blew. I feel bad for the people that lived there as I was able to get on a bus and head away from the dust cloud.
Imagine getting your cat towear that stuff?
Imagine the emergency room bill to sew up your hands.
I was selling Imported Auto Parts in Austin, TX. Shortly after Mt. St. Helens eruption We had several Customers who came in the store and bought multiple Air Filters, some wanting 10 or more of each filter. We started asking why so many ?
They said that there were for Friends or Family that lived in the a ash fallout zone and the area Parts Stores and Dealerships were sold out and that prices were being raised for the ones that were still available in the area.
Within a few days We were getting calls from the Ash Zone from people that had heard through the grapevine We had filters and they were priced to the point it was cheaper to buy and ship them from Austin to the NW Ash Zone. They were selling like crazy to the point where We made a Stock Order for nothing but Air Filters and many people would order in advance and pay for Filters and Shipping Charges. This went on for about 2 months.
Well, I can understand that; but it amazes me that problems other than ash fallout - like clogged water intakes - are still causing problems.

Yogi will get blowed up
They might be right but I really don’t trust anything that a “scientist” says.
