The Kremlin said on Tuesday that there is not yet a clear outline of a potential U.S.-Russia deal on Ukraine, but that the political will to move in the direction of an agreement is there.

In a call with reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that contacts with the U.S. had been positive and useful, but that Moscow would not give a possible timeline for a peace settlement.

--- "Russia says the issue is a complex one and that it is therefore not surprising that it will take time to find a long-lasting solution."

"...it will take some time...." Or someone can push the big red button.

What is certain is that the Zelensky government does not hold the cards.

"Trump said that Russia could have already invaded all of Ukraine if Putin wanted, claiming Zelensky has no leverage or negotiation skills. He also said Ukraine is more ‘demolished’ than Gaza."

"Trump Says Putin Has Power to Take Ukraine ‘If He Wants,’ Zelensky ‘Has No Cards’" Kyiv Post, 21 February 2025.

"...it will take some time...." Even to push the big red button.

“Putin is stalling.”

Perhaps, but more likely is that Witkoff is having trouble convincing Trump that there’s more to the Ukraine War than the Neocon/Media narrative that Putin woke up in a bad mood in Feb 2022 and thus decided to invade a neighboring country (Trump has both Neocons and Realists as top advisers). As it is, Trump does seem to be slowly coming around.

Zelensky is the one that has been stalling by refusing to sign a rare earths deal.

It's past time to cutoff all aid to Ukraine permanently unless he resigns and allows someone to take over that will seek unconditional peace talks.

“Zelensky is the one that has been stalling by refusing to sign a rare earths deal”

Yes, but he’ll take a ceasefire because he’s losing land much faster now and his troops are a wreck, they’ve had no rest, no rotation and there aren’t enough of them.

Putin is stalling on the ceasefire because he knows that’s an advantage to Ukraine and a minus for him.

Why would Putin accept a ceasefire and give Ukraine a time to rearm and conscript more troops?

Russia is in a position of strength and isn't going accept anything less than concession of the annexed territory to the Russian Federation and NATO being expelled from Ukraine.
