Blue Origin rocket with all-female crew, including Katy Perry, set for Monday launch

Six women, including pop star Katy Perry, are scheduled to be launched into space for about 11 minutes on Monday on a Blue Origin rocket, a lift-off that would mark the first all-female spaceflight since 1963, according to the company.

The window for the latest New Shepard rocket launch is expected to open on Monday morning at about 8:30 a.m. CDT, according to Blue Origin.

long with Perry, the crew includes Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos' journalist fiance, Lauren Sanchez, who is also a helicopter pilot.

Journalist Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn round out the flight crew, according to Blue Origin.

The flight will last only around 11 minutes and reach a height of about 65 miles above Earth. The Kármán line, considered the boundary between Earth's atmosphere and outer space, is 62 miles, so Perry and her fellow crew members will not actually be launched into orbit.

The most-recent all-female spaceflight was Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo spaceflight in 1963, Blue Origin said.

Is that it?
It looks SO wrong, not to mention the design will add air friction.

There seems to be an historical precedence here.

Is that high enough to orbit for a while or would a circling craft at that height begin decaying and falling quickly?

She’s slimmed down quite a bit recently. She’s rumored to be using one of the new designer weight loss drugs, and she looks gaunt and unwell.

Don’t you ever peruse the Daily Mail website to keep up on these things? :-)

When things got regulated.

I’m not sure exactly how this applies to spacecraft - but I imagine it is similar to aircraft and maritime vessels.

You can not legally carry passengers in an experimental vessel. The vessel has to be certified for carrying passengers. When someone is a passenger, they get certain legal rights and protections that are not extended to the crew of the vessel.

It is common for people to be listed as “crew members” to get around this rule. All the people on the Titan (the OceanGate submersible that was destroyed) were listed as crew for this reason.

I suspect that is why these women are all “crew members”.

Just to buttress your point we have this. It appears Blue Origin did not even make an orbital launch attempt in 2024?

This is not a graphic you will see presented by our Fake Media.

I hope this publicity stunt ends well.

“Notice all of the “feminist” foreheads showing.”

The theory is the receding hairlines and thinning hair are caused by oral birth control pills.

I really don’t get that at all. Through history we seem to have had exposed female foreheads, with nothing more “in your face” than men with the same.

The 50s and 60s may have had more styles with bangs, but these days most bangs seemingly are on older women trying to hide and distract from crows feet at their eyes.

To each his own and I hope you have a banged lady in your life, so to speak.

And so well-played in this particular scenario. It was a staged stunt.

mark the first all-female spaceflight since 1963, according to the company.

From Wikipedia, Alan Shepherd, first American in space:

Unlike Gagarin’s 108-minute orbital flight in a Vostok spacecraft three times the size of Freedom 7,[71] Shepard stayed on a suborbital trajectory for the 15-minute flight, which reached an altitude of 101.2 nautical miles (116.5 statute miles; 187.4 kilometers), and then fell to a splashdown 263.1 nautical miles (302.8 statute miles; 487.3 kilometers) down the Atlantic Missile Range.[79]

Someone whose most famous lyric is “Baby you’re a firework...” probably shouldn’t tempt fate like this.
