The Senate confirmed retired Lt. Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine to lead the Joint Chiefs early Friday morning — elevating a little-known three-star general just seven weeks after President Donald Trump fired Gen. C.Q. Brown from the post.
Caine overcame doubts about his qualifications and ability to remain apolitical, and was confirmed in a bipartisan 60-25 vote to serve as the top military adviser to the president.

I know where the strawberries are—so we can skip that step.
Lol.
I think Trump has a position for you!
You had to be a left wing, woke, DEI, BLM loving butt kisser to get promoted to 0-7 after Obama took office— magnified on steroids by Biden!
True, but only in modern times —‘old blood and guts’ being a good example of the old days.
Officers never fully leave the military, we can be recalled at any time to face legal action or at the pleasure of the President.
Yep, Alexander Haig was a good example..
I have to wonder if people are enthralled with the nicknames of these guys than they are their performance. Nicknames are usually handed out in the military academies or primary schools such as jump school or pilot training. Often, they have no basis in “job” performance.
I don’t know anything about this man and I am sure he is competent and will “buy into” the vision of the forces.
I just think nicknames are often misleading.
Yes, nicknames more likely are assigned because of looks, background, or something bad, or something embarrassing, that the person has done.
"Stonewall Jackson Earns His Name"
The drama features several big stars, including Kirk Cameron as Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson. According to biographers and historians (via the History Channel), he earned his nickname during the First Battle of Bull Run in July 1861. At the time, he was serving as a brigadier general. During the battle, he commanded his troops to rush forward as the Union Army attacked. They filled a gap in the Confederate line. Another Confederate general observed his bold move.
He reportedly remarked, “Look, men, there is Jackson standing like a stone wall!”
The “Stonewall Jackson” nickname stuck. He earned a reputation as a genius in military tactics. Military tacticians worldwide, including professors at the Virginia Military Institute, continue to teach many of the tactics and maneuvers that he used in numerous campaigns."
“ Okay, who here has come up with an attention-grabbing nickname for yourself to grab your big boss’s attention at work?”
I’m called a pitbull on crack.
THAT IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME.
HE & ELON MIGHT MAKE A GREAT PAIR.
The big boss approves.
Yes, I knew that. My son is a USAF commissioned pilot officer. I was wondering about the fact that he was a 3 star, but I guess that was taken care of too. When I first saw “Raising Caine,” I thought it was about the fried chicken place. 🥹🤪
“Generals with cute nicknames have disappointed greatly before.”
Oh, I get it! You mean like Stormin’ Norman!
Except “Chesty Puller”

Lt. Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine
Prior to becoming Chairman on April 11, 2025, Gen. Caine was the Associate Director for Military Affairs at Central Intelligence Agency.
Gen. Caine has served in a wide range of operational, staff and joint assignments, primarily as an F-16 fighter pilot, weapons officer, member of the White House staff and special operations officer.
As a Command Pilot, he has logged more than 2,800 hours in the F-16, including more than 150 combat hours.
Also look at his education and 27 previous assignments at the AF link provided. General Caine knows how to develop tactics and fight and win wars, what our military’s primary focus should be.
This lowly Maj, USAF Retired is thrilled we have a real Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
“Mad Dog” comes immediately to mind…
“Officers never fully leave the military, we can be recalled at any time to face legal action or at the pleasure of the President.”
Douglas MacArthur was a Major General when appointed Chief of Staff in 1930, receiving a temporary promotion to General. When he retired in 1935 to head the Philipine Army, he reverted back to Major General.
MacArthur was recalled to active service in 1941 as a Lieutenant General, then received promotions to General and General of the Army during the war.
There were other generals and admirals recalled during WW2 but I do not think any saw combat.
Probably more like “Mad Dog” Madden.
