And people wonder why metal detector are needed in schools.

Husband was a high school dean - said a kid entered his office and said another kid had a gun in his backpack and was showing it around.

My husband knew the kid was telling the truth and immediately called the police - who found the gun. School covered it all up and it was never mentioned again...

"Information was not immediately released on the child’s age or gender, who owned the gun or why they took the gun to school."

In addition to this abysmal lack of information, it's surprising that the age of the child was even included. Furthermore the type of gun (revolver, semi-automatic) was not disclosed (perhaps the reporter didn't know or ask). While a photo was included with the news story, there was no indication whether it was the gun brought to the school or just a stock photo of a gun.

I don’t believe a word of it. Schools are gun free zones, it’s impossible for a gun to be there.

From Channel MBC4, Live Washington News, DC, Maryland.... (my comments added)

A gun inside a third-grader’s backpack went off in a classroom in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, on Monday morning, authorities say.

A third grader.. That's a 9 year old kid...

No students or staff were hurt after the gunfire at Lee Hill Elementary School, the county sheriff’s office said. The handgun fired at about 10:50 a.m., the office said in a statement.

Yeah, the gun "fired". Nobody touched it, nobody squeezed the trigger. It just fired by itself. Obviously just another one of those evil guns.....

“Once the gun discharged, the teacher evacuated all 26 students from the classroom and notified the School Resource Officer who was on site,” the statement said. The student had no intent to do harm, the sheriff’s office said after conducting initial interviews. Detectives are continuing to interview the student and the student’s parents.

No intent to do harm... yeah right.. Just a firearm bought to show everyone else.. No attempt to do harm tho. It was that darn evil gun again that just " Fired" all by its evil self..

In a message to families, Spotsylvania County Public Schools said “school staff immediately followed safety protocols that included securing the weapon, safely removing students from the classroom to the cafeteria, going into a school-wide hold, and conducting a threat assessment." School officials advised families to look inside kids’ backpacks. “We ask that parents and guardians check their child’s backpack each day to make sure they are bringing to school only items that are needed for instruction,” the message said.

Unless of course they are just bringing the firearm for show and tell. Then it's OK..

No information was immediately released on who owned the gun or how it got into the student’s backpack.

Yeah, darn evil gun just probably jumped into that doggone backpack all by itself. Those ev--vil guns can do that...

Here's a link showing the academic and other demographics of Billingsley Elementary School. It helps explain why this gun incident should be no surprise.

When I was a kid I could carry my pocket knife and zippo lighter to elementary school but kids didn’t have backpacks then, they didn’t even exist, I’m still baffled how America becoming woman dominated put backpacks on children.

Arrest the parents for child endangerment towards all the children in that school, including theirs. Plus teachers and anyone on staff. Not to mention for not keeping the gun secured and out of the hands of children.
