In addition to this abysmal lack of information, it's surprising that the age of the child was even included. Furthermore the type of gun (revolver, semi-automatic) was not disclosed (perhaps the reporter didn't know or ask). While a photo was included with the news story, there was no indication whether it was the gun brought to the school or just a stock photo of a gun.

The photo of a Kimber K6S .357 Mag revolver shows 5 roounds and one empty cartridge with an indentation made from a firing pin.

That would match the report of a gun that was fired once.
