Russian-American ballerina Ksenia Karelina was released from Kremlin custody in a prisoner swap with the United States on Thursday morning.
Karelina was freed in exchange for German-Russian Arthur Petrov at a swap in Abu Dhabi, the Wall Street Journal reported.
“American Ksenia Karelina is on a plane back home to the United States,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.
“She was wrongfully detained by Russia for over a year and President Trump secured her release. @POTUS will continue to work for the release of ALL Americans,” he added.
The dual-citizen spa worker was accused of treason against the Russian government when she donated $51 to a charity that allegedly supported Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022 — the day Russia launched its attack on its western neighbor.
She allegedly “transferred funds in the interests of a Ukrainian organization, which were subsequently used for the purchase of tactical medicine items, equipment, means of defeat and ammunition by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
Ksenia was arrested by Russian officials in January 2024 while on a month-long vacation visiting family in Yekaterinburg, a Russian city 1,100 miles east of Moscow.
She was sentenced to 12 years in a penal colony in August.

The dual-citizen spa worker
Be nice. We don’t know all the details.
Yes, there should be no such thing. Either you become a U.S citizen or you don’t. And how stupid is she? Still a Russian citizen, goes back to Russia while they are at war with Ukraine...and sends money to Ukraine? Pretty stupid in my book.
Once again Russia gets back one of their criminals in exchange for one of our regular citizens.
“Be nice. We don’t know all the details.”
SPA in upscale SLS hotel.
SPA is now closed.
I wouldn’t call her a regular citizen.
Sensible? Smart? well... “She’s pretty.”
This is usually a wink, wink spy-for-spy exchange.
Not Guilty!!
“I wouldn’t call her a regular citizen.”
OK. An upscale spa employee.
lol Pretty bad when we have to import dual citizen spa employees.

Sorry for the double post.
As usual, the Russians get the better deal in trade :
Dual citizen. If anyone thinks highly enough of their country to not renounce citizenship when receiving US citizenship then we should feel no remorse in leaving them to the tender mercies of that government. Same goes for all the US citizens seeking to add another citizenship.
Split your allegiance but don’t expect the rest of us to bail you out.
I can SEE why Trump wants her back.
There is no doubt she is a woman.
