With increasing polarization in the U.S., political discussions between friends and family members from different parties can be fraught. But how do these political factors influence people’s love lives? We know little about how often people in romantic relationships have political disagreements and whether political differences affect couples’ happiness, or whether some couples navigate these differences better than others.
To address these questions, we surveyed over 4,000 people in the U.S., including more than 500 couples. Political differences in our large sample of couples were relatively rare: Only about 23% of couples belonged to different parties, and fewer than 8% were made up of one Democrat and one Republican. Other measures of political agreement, such as asking people to rate themselves on how conservative or liberal they are, showed a similar pattern–most couples tend to agree about politics.
For the few people who do end up with a partner who has different political beliefs, does this spell disaster for their relationship?

It was pretty clear to me... what part of the statement didn’t you understand?
After this question is answered, we can then move on to the next question: Can prostitutes continue to have successful marriages and their career?
My husband was a liberal for the first few years of our marriage. It was a bit awkward at family get togethers with my side of the family; out of kindness, my relatives did not bring up politics when we were together, though discussing politics was one of their favorite passtimes. My husband and I avoided discussing politics with each other, as it tended to result in arguments. He listened to NPR for several hours a day, and if politics did come up, he would accuse me of being a Rush Limbaugh devotee. Actually, I never listened to him, as I listened to the alternative conservative radio station. Anyway, one day he was listening to a favorite NPR program, and was outraged by something the host joked about American Indians. Well, he had to listen to something, so he found another talk radio channel; of course, it was conservative radio, because liberal radio channels never could make it, especially in Oklahoma. His eyes were opened and he’s been a staunch conservative ever since! (actually, I don’t think he really was a true liberal; his family were all democrats, though if his parents were alive, they’d probably be Trump supporters). I give God all the glory; I was determined to let Him make any changes that were needed in our marriage, and I marvel at what He has done!
Can their relationship survive??? Sheeeeeyit. Can he survive? He better sleep with both eyes open. DemonicRATS be crazy 🤪
Why the F bother
Life is too short
Lefties either hate their families or are miserably uninformed with zero curiosity
Offended?
No surprise there.
Boy I’m glad I’m a white Christian from Mississippi
Out of 159-200 family and friends I know by name or am close to
Less than a half dozen libs
We are a unified culture
Pretty much since we settled here
Or the cavalier class as Sherman called it lol
The things we do for Nani and emotional availability from split tails
Indeed
I don’t know why a decent looking would whine
They certainly have a hormonally adjudicated advantage
Even at my age 67
No, because she will inevitably prove herself to be a whore.
It depends on their level of political intensity. If neither party cares at all about politics, either conservative or liberal then there’s probably a good chance the marriage will last.
But noooooooo!
They cannot answer the question What Is A Woman? How on Earth can you have a conversation about "parts" if you cannot agree on the basics?
Who cares.
Agreed; no way could I love, let alone ever have married anyone who wasn’t as CONSERVATIVE as I have always been. The same is true of my progeny. And no way will my grand date anyone who is a Dem, or worse...a raging liberal.
Pronto.
There are millions of couples like that. I have one next door. Great people.
I flipped my wife during the Bush-Gore debate...
A lot of attractive, book-smart girls I knew in college 35 years ago who were pretty much apolitical then... are now in their mid-50s and show up in Google searches as donors to Obama/Biden/Kamala et al. Many bullets did I dodge, yes, but at the same time, it’s kind of sad how few ended up swinging to the right compared to the left (probably a 5%/95% split).
I am Marilyn and the rest of my family is the Munsters. They are all liberals and I am the freak.
As long as she does what she’s damn well told
Now, make me a damn sammich woman
*******
She is just letting you think that
