Tonight, April 8, 1865, near Mobile, Alabama, my great grandfather served on guard duty for the 119th Illinois Volunteers (Col. Kinney) of 1st Brigade (Col. Rinaker), 2nd Division (BG Girrard), XVI Corps (MG Andrew Jackson Smith), Army of West Mississippi (MG Edward R. S. Canby).

Tomorrow, April 9, at Fort Blakely, he will fight in his unit's last of 10 battles and 5 skirmishes in 6 major campaigns.
