A Florida middle school principal said he “did something dumb” after he was arrested at Walmart for trying a shoplifting tactic he claims his friends told him would work.
Bok Academy North Principal Gregory Lewis was at a Winter Haven Walmart in Polk County on Saturday afternoon when an asset protection officer observed him “skip scanning” at the self-checkout, WFLA reported.
The middle school principal, who admitted to the crime, told a Winter Haven police officer during his arrest that his friends had told him about the shoplifting tactic and that he wanted to try it out for himself.

It takes quite a bit of time and coursework to qualify to become a principal. He likely just threw away about $100,000 for that $37 worth of items
Not only did he do it in the wrong state but the wrong county.....the sheriff in Polk county is born hard.
And the people at the exits who want to see your receipts are useless. You can just walk by them and they won’t stop you. I’m scrupulously honest and walk by feeling just fine. The crooks have to master insouciance, but they are good at that.
Exactly, who has friends that are shoplifters?!
It is extremely rare for me to do a self checkout. But when I do, they almost never really do anything but check to see that I have a receipt.
“ Pretty easy to tell the difference between a mistake and deliberately attempting to do what this guy got caught doing.”
Yeah I get that .
But, it would be easy for something to not get scanned by mistake ; not talking about this guy.
But you or I where something gets missed by mistake
It likely happens a lot

That’s not the people...that’s the store policy......and that kind of weak loss protection strategy is one of the biggest problems retail stores have and its self inflicted.....it just emboldens theives to continue stealing.
He’s throwing his “friends” in his story like it was peer pressure.....not to believable considering he’s a grown ass man.....as they like to say.
Secular modernity doesn’t recognize morality as a category.
Well, all I can say is we have used self checkout at Walmart for many years and have never made the mistake missing a scan.
I’m sure it happens but if your paying attention it probably shouldn’t be an issue.
I’ve known many black folks at the street level. As a rule they feel that they’re entitled to steal from stores and everyone else too. Not all of them of course, but a very large percentage to make me think it’s something they learn from their parent(s) or that it’s culturally acceptable.

The local Kroger has a jersey standing in the checkout are in early morning but they won’t check you out at regular cashier. When I told him it was stupid he got nasty said “I don’t want to hear it” So much for listening to your customers.
JeRK not jersey. I also despise Google autocorrect.
Many years ago I left Target and realized I had missed a soap dish that was in my cart. Found it when I was loading the car. Went back in and paid for it.
I used to hate self checkout until I realized it was better than the person at the register giving me that blank I-hate-you stare when I would say “good morning!”
Yes, sometimes the scan doesn’t work. I know a guy who will scan twice and if it doesn’t work he throws the item in his bag anyway since they are forcing him to work and he didn’t get trained how to scan. Others believe that since they are doing the self scan (working) they deserve a free item or two.
This fellow would probably support the cheating.
That right there is how a innocent person could get in trouble
Hey, at least, he admitted he was wrong. Most don’t even do that!
