Price of Lululemon’s leggings could jump due to Trump’s hefty tariffs on Vietnam

The price of Lululemon’s popular leggings and yoga wear could soon jump by more than 10% because of President Donald Trump’s sweeping reciprocal tariffs, according to industry experts.

The high-end athleisure brand is “in the tariffs bullseye” – with the bulk of its manufacturing sourced from countries that were among the hardest hit hard, William Blair analyst Sharon Zackfia wrote in a note to clients.

Lululemon has said 40% of its products are made in Vietnam – which the US plans to hit with a 46% tariff.

Another 46% of Lululemon’s garments are produced in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Bangladesh, which face tariffs between 32% and 49%.

That means Lululemon’s trademark $118 legging could spike to as high as $132.

The others will as well, using the impending deal with Vietnam as their model.

$118 legging !!? yikes. I’m guessing if you can afford that, the extra 10% isn’t going to break you.

Maybe Lululemon could make their clothing in the U.S.A. Wouldn’t that be cool.

“That means Lululemon’s trademark $118 legging”

Any idiot who would pay $118 for leggings ... I can’t even imagine. Kind of off topic, but about 75% of people who wear leggings ... shouldn’t.

Ironic that the communists in Vietnam may turn out to be more pro free market than the Democrat party.

Old news. Vietnam talked to Trump and are willing to take their tariffs to zero.

One of the reasons Japan builds cars in the US is because they no longer have the surplus of local labor who are of the right age to work in auto assembly. So, they moved the assembly to the US to avoid currency conversion problems, tariffs, and anger from the US government. The profits go home to Japan, get taxed and help to cushion the shock of declining demographics. It’s a clear win/win.

Vietnam, on the other hand, has a surplus of labor. They need to keep that labor productively employed or suffer social unrest. The best bet from their perspective is to simply charge more. Oddly, the more expensive and useless the purchase, the more they’ll sell in our ridiculous luxury market. You can’t get much more ridiculous than leggings. They’ll do well.

My wife says that leggings are just industrial strength pantyhose, adding:

“...with support and added definition”.

At age 68, and (genetically blessed I guess) she still has a marvelous figure, and since age 26 has submitted the Holy Ghost to dress as a Godly woman should. She was in Goodwill recently, and a black man approached her, and thanked her for being good example to other women and girls.

The fact that such garments have been pushed as acceptable to wear literally everywhere, has made modesty an almost unheard of behavior.

I cringe when I see a small child being shown his mother’s beehind in such garments. And even worse, doing so to men that aren’t their husbands. What’s the matter with women? It’s idiotic.

50% of younger women these days seemingly are wearing these. 50% of them should not be and I’ll leave it at that. If nothing else the price increase may help drop that number.
