BELINGTON, W.Va (WDTV) - An Elkins police officer was arrested Sunday after assaulting a woman.

Christian Mayle, 25, of Belington, has been charged with domestic battery, according to the Belington Police Department.

According to an official with the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department, Mayle left their department in September 2024 before joining the Elkins Police Department. Elkins Police Chief Travis Bennett said their department is aware of Mayle’s arrest and that he is on administrative leave pending an investigation into the matter.

At approximately 2 a.m. Sunday morning, police responded to a home on Centre Avenue in Belington after a woman called 911 screaming and crying. Mayle had fled the scene before police arrived, court documents say.

The victim told police that she and Mayle began arguing at a bar after she asked to go home. While taking her home, Mayle was speeding at speeds above 100 mph, repeatedly swerved off the road and told her he was going to kill her, court documents say.

When the victim attempted to get her phone out, Mayle took it from her and threw it at her, police said. After she grabbed it again, he ripped it from her and threw it at the windshield, causing a crack, court documents say.

Mayle grabbed the victim by the back of the head and slammed her head into the windshield, as well, police said.

Once they arrived home, the argument progressed, and the victim went to the bedroom and locked herself in it, court documents say. She was actively on the phone with 911 at the time when Mayle forced his way through the door, grabbed her by her throat, slammed her up into the door and then down onto the bed, police said.

Mayle then loaded a handgun and left the scene, court documents say.

He’s obviously not a DEI hire; he’s just an all around nutjob. If he will assault an innocent woman like that, imagine how he treats people when he stops them for simple driving offenses.

the headline might be a little misleading ... she’s not just “a woman” ... it sounds like they live together ...

Yeah, stupid headline.

They are shacking up, and this is probably not the first time he has slapped her around. But she has likely gone back to him every time.

Too many foolish, trashy women out there.
