Allianz scraps nuclear, military exclusions to back Europe's rearmament drive

Germany's Allianz Global Investors has dropped two exclusions blocking its sustainable funds from investing in defence, becoming one of the first major European asset managers to change their policies to help finance the region's rearmament.

AGI wrote to its clients late last week to advise that its sustainable funds could now buy into companies that earned more than 10% of their revenue from military equipment and services.

AGI, part of insurer Allianz (ALVG.DE), opens new tab, manages about 570 billion euros ($615.77 billion) in assets.

The changes come amid a broader drive by European investors to reconsider their policies on investing in defence, under pressure from clients and some politicians to loosen restrictions.

Funds badged as sustainable have come under particular scrutiny, as they often have stricter exclusions.

Apparently the Europeans only think the arms industry is unethical only when it’s convenient for them to think it is.

Translation from the German ---

War is sustainable.
Until it isn't.

When I saw that Germany is rearming, I thought to myself "Guess Europe is about due for another history lesson."

Who was said "History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme"?

I've heard it said it won't happen this time, because there are no Aryan troops left. The only warriors left in Germany are immigrants.

This time it won't be the Kiaser, or the Fuhrer, but someone else. Maybe an Ayatolla?

No amount of $$$ can make up for the utter stupidity of turning off the generation of electricity. Germany shut down all the electricity generated from nuclear power plants.

The only thing really “sustainable” in Germany at present is their decline.

Even France is building more nuclear plants.

Whatever military assets they build up will be used against “the unsavory” citizens that dare vote the wrong way.
