RIGHT WING, ARMY POTOMAC, Tuesday, March 28 -- 8 A.M.
Since Saturday, everything has been quiet along this entire front, except the usual picket-firing at night, and considerable cannonading yesterday. The cannonading was occasioned by the arrival of Gen. SHERIDAN's cavalry, who reached City Point on Sunday, and yesterday moved into position near the camp of Gen. DAVIES' (lately Gen. GREGG's) cavalry division. As they were passing a point where they were exposed to rebel view, the latter opened upon them with shell, but, with a single exception, their shot fell short and did no damage. The shot that made the exception went so far beyond the moving column that it was equally harmless.
The men and horses of SHERIDAN's command look remarkably well, considering the labors they have performed since last Fall, and the former express themselves ready and anxious for another raid against the enemy. They will probably be accommodated in this particular, but how soon no one knows.
Yesterday, orders were received at the various field hospitals to remove the sick and wounded to City Point, and to keep the hospitals in readiness for any emergency that may arise. This order, no doubt, arose from the fact of apprehension being entertained that the enemy would attempt to retake the ground in front of the Sixth and Second Corps, over which we advanced our picket line on Saturday. They have not, however, attempted the recovery of the ground, as yet, and are probably waiting until we are lulled into security by their apparent acquiescence in the loss. HENRY H. YOUNG.
