The European Union is preparing for new security challenges, with Brussels advising households on Wednesday to stockpile three days’ worth of emergency supplies – including food, medicine and other essentials – as part of a strategy to help the bloc plan for natural disasters, cyberattacks, pandemics and armed conflict.
Bottled water, energy bars, a flashlight and more: the EU is pushing for every household in the 27-country bloc to have a three-day survival kit ready in case of crisis – be it a conflict, pandemic or natural disaster.
The European Commission on Wednesday unveiled a list of 30 concrete ways for EU member states to boost their preparedness, counseling residents of the bloc to have enough resources to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours in case they are cut off from essential services.
The 72-hour survival kit is part of a broader "preparedness strategy" in line with a key report last year on strengthening Europe's civilian and military preparedness as the bloc faces new challenges, said EU crisis management commissioner Hadja Lahbib.
"In the EU we must think different because the threats are different, we must think bigger because the threats are bigger too,” she said.
"Knowing what to do in case of danger – gaming out different scenarios – that's also a way to prevent people from panicking," said Lahbib, recalling shelves being stripped of toilet paper in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lahbib posted a video on social media detailing items citizens should keep in an emergency bag, including medicine and essential documents in a plastic pouch as well as a Swiss army knife.

They better hope the EU does not outlaw that Swiss Army Knife.
Jeez. These are things that every household in the world should have. To publicize this seems to me they are trying to scare citizens into thinking that a disaster is imminent. So if this advice is followed, everyone will flock to the nearest store and empty it. Stores will run out causing shortages. Those who didn’t make it to a store, well tough sh!t.
The Revolution Will Be Televised
Toilet paper first! Everyone must load up on toilet paper! And paper towels too.
I live in Florida. I could live comfortably in my house for three months. Although, I generally have only thirty gallons of gas for the generator. But I have four cars I could drain.
.
How to promote PANIC. Step 1: Prepare!
They dont have three days of supplies on hand?
Talk about stupid.
Potassium iodide?
Preppers have taken over Europe. The EUSSR is really betting it all on the Ukraine War, they’re either gonna take over Russia or die trying.
I am hoping for the evil EUSSR communist leadership to be put in a hole.
I would like to see the 3 day minimum dropped for a 10 day minimum, in America I notice that we have done that to an extent and that 2 weeks has been slowly creeping into our publications.
They also need to become more real, for instance people who live in areas of America that get 20 and 30 below zero and remain cold need to know some serious male type things, even if they live in a modern city house a week or two of below zero is going to possibly kill many modern families and definitely will destroy their homes and condos.
Whachu smokin'?
Panic is something you experience when you are NOT prepared. Each time there’s a hurricane “panic” where thousands of people flood the stores for water and drain the in-ground gas reserves, I take a nap.
The U.S. will NOT be showing up this time...I hope.
Don’t forget to have desks strategically placed to quickly hide under.

The Russian Winter always wins.
Just ask Napoleon or Hitler.
Survivalism almost always gets it wrong.
All such prepping always takes place with a presumed period of time before RTN — return to normal — being days or weeks. If someone talks months, they are called extreme.
How about years, or decades, or forever? How do they prep for that? Here is what happens when oil stops flowing.
The trucks stop delivering. Their drivers leave the job to try to help their families. The cities will have a population of maybe 90% who decide to stay put and wait for government to solve the problem. Rumors will fly because there will be no electricity for internet or media.
10% — the remaining 10% — are the 10% who are smartest and have the most gumption. They are leaving after a week or two, flowing out from the cities, looking for places to loot, food to steal. Europe has fewer guns, but those that are there will be in the hands of this 10% who are the brightest, toughest and most determined. They will take what they didn’t store.
Let’s see her fit that in her 72 hour bugout bag.
I have enough for me and my neighbors. And a Geiger counter.
The EU bureaucrats are truly pathetic. The Bugout Bag (BOB), I keep in my truck carries a lot more than a three-day supply of survival gear.

Same here, I’m easily set for over a year, including things like coffee and books, extra reading glasses, a full indoor winter clothing comfort wardrobe for lounging around the house comfortably without heat, and can keep my canned food and water pipes (and toilet) from freezing, reasonably ready for the worst of summer heat for cooling myself in an emergency and for sleeping on hot nights, I’m guaranteed adequate lighting and radio for years.
Knowing you have the luxury of being able to have a few weeks to think about things without worry and to allow emergency events to unfold and heal themselves while you watch mostly detached from it all, is worth the fairly minor effort of adopting some of the prepping hobby.
