President Donald Trump said he knew nothing of members of his administration discussing sensitive war plans in a group text that errantly included Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic when asked about the bombshell report on Monday.
Goldberg, the outlet’s editor-in-chief, reported Monday he was looped into a Signal group earlier this month wherein multiple top Trump administration officials discussed bombing Houthi terrorists in Yemen.
Those people apparently included Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and Vice President JD Vance. Goldberg said he was added to the group after an invitation from Trump National Security Advisor Mike Waltz on Signal, an encrypted messaging cell phone app.
The report sent shockwaves across Washington. When Trump was asked about it Monday afternoon by a pool reporter, he said he knew nothing of the report:
REPORTER: Mr. President, your reaction to the story, The Atlantic, that said that some of your top cabinet officials and aides have been discussing very sensitive material through Signal and included an Atlantic reporter for that. What is your response to that and are you going to take it –
TRUMP: I don’t know anything about it. I’m not a big fan of The Atlantic. To me, it’s a magazine that’s going out of business. I think it’s not much of a magazine, but I know nothing about it. You’re saying that they had what?
REPORTER: They were using Signal to coordinate on sensitive materials, and –
TRUMP: Having to do with what? Having to do with what? What were they talking about?
REPORTER: The Houthis.
TRUMP: With the Houthis. You mean the attack on the Houthis? Well, it couldn’t have been very effective because the attack was very effective, I can tell you that. I don’t know anything about it. You’re telling me about it for the first time?
Golberg reported Monday that in the conversation, Trump’s inner circle discussed bombing Yemen – something Vance had reservations about, but Hegseth was in favor of.
He added Hegseth posted sensitive and classified information that The Atlantic opted against sharing.
Back in 2023, Mike Waltz excoriated Jake Sullivan for using private emails in communications and thereby violating security protocols. Now he's in charge and allows war discussions to be leaked.
So with all this sloppiness making headlines, NO ONE BRIEFED THE PRESIDENT??? This is beyond irresponsible.
Waltz failed both by allowing the leak and then in not informing the CinC.
This is asinine. On top of the stupidity WHO authorized Signal? No honest IT guy.
I think there is more to this story that we will find out much more shortly. Is it possible it happened this way, yes. But I try not to get outraged over first reports anymore.
Steaming bovine excrement.
Don’t buy BS from The Atlantic.
Well, we had to attack them.
that was a no-brainer because they were attacking ships and messing with the trade routes. Not something I would wanna spend months or years on but to go in for a few days blow up a few ships. I have no problem with that and I don’t think 99% of Americans care either.
Probably some Vindman type traitor. These guys aren’t really experienced in this kind of stuff so my guess is someone like Comey set them up. Or was the reporter’s number included by traitor?
It had to be someone who had Goldbergs email or phone number it’s not like it was automatically imputed someone had to put it in and I doubt he’s good friends with anyone in trump’s administration
Canary Trap
And he just happened to have the editor's number for what purposes?
Is there any possibility that Waltz's email was hacked and he didn't actually send the invitation?
Of course Hillary did worse but this is different--this is a Republican administration.
Makes me think he was trolled.
Mediate BS
Agree. Sounds shaky, like something’s being left out of the story. Happened earlier this month but just being reported now?
And it begins. The MIC deep state in Trump’ back pocket is beginning to show it’s self. I knew this was going to happen the minute Vance was announced as his running mate.
If the story was false, Waltz should have given President Trump a heads-up so he could deny.
True OR false, how does a security functionary NOT tell the CinC of the allegation of a security breach at the highest level??
If so, President Trump had a perfect opportunity to expose it.
But no one bothered to tell him that this story was on every news channel and website.
Does this look like a “limited hangout” to show that Trump’s cabinet is working together as a team and ironing out personal differences.
What would be the value of this info to the Houthis if it’s published after they’ve been hit?
Is this more massive than Hilary’s unsecure server?
More likely they’ve been using it on the side and someone screwed up. Malice or stupid this needs to be figured out and stopped.
