NEW-ORLEANS, Friday, March 17.

Gen. CANBY is now near Mobile, and the grand attack by the land and naval forces upon the city will be made within five days.

Gens. CANBY, GRANGER and SMITH, and Admiral THATCHER, went within four miles of Mobile on the steamer Laura, last week, and drew a heavy fire from many of the rebel batteries that line the harbor.

Important News Expected from Mobile-The Forces Operating Against that City.

Special Dispatch to the New-York Times.

WASHINGTON, Thursday, March 23.

Important news is expected here in a short time from the vicinity of Mobile; and it is believed that it will be of the most cheering character. A campaign against the Gulf city has been in preparation since the middle of last January; but on account of the necessity of organizing the Thirteenth and Sixteenth Corps, and the removing of a multiplicity of obstacles, a task which required time, the troops of the Sixteenth Corps were not landed at Fort Gaines until the 12th of this month. The last of Gen. A.J. SMITH's command left New-Orleans on the 10th inst.

It was calculated that the blow would be struck between the 25th and 30th of this month. Should our forces attempt to capture Mobile by assault, a sanguinary struggle may ensue, as all the approaches to the place are protected by strong fortifications, and it is supposed that the rebels have a large force in and about the city.

The attacking force is composed of veteran troops, under the chief command of Gen. CANBY. Two Generals, whose reputations for fighting energy, skill and determination is well established -- Gens. GORDON GRANGER and A.J. SMITH, will command the two wings, respectively.

Beside the Thirteenth and Sixteenth Corps there will be a colored division

As the anniversary of the disaster at Appomattox approaches, headlines elsewhere today reminds us of the consequences of losing a war involving the notion of “federal supremacy.”

“Nothing in the Draggieland performance offends the executive order the Board cites. No male performer in the drag show is stating an intent to become a woman. Nor does the Board point to evidence in the record establishing that the president's executive order on “biological truth” specifically refers or applies to drag shows.”

“The court grants the motion for a preliminary injunction. The Board is enjoined from enforcing the ban. The Draggieland performance scheduled for March 27, 2025, in the Rudder Theatre, may proceed as originally scheduled.”
