My doctor told me eggs are not the problem (I’ve had a quad bypass), bread is the problem. That’s where your cholesterol comes from..............
I hadn’t heard that.
Correct! Carbs cause systemic fat (in all its forms including cholesterol). Carbs also cause high blood sugar. Dietary fat’s contribution to systemic fat is very limited. Cutting carbs and (to a lesser extent) sodium are the trick.
Inflammation and oxidation is the problem.
LDL numbers are largely meaningless is isolation. It’s when LDL breaks down to VLDL you get in trouble.
Which, as you note, is caused by crappy carbs, not enough fruits and veggies, and bad fats.
And who said cholesterol was bad? Plaque in the arteries is bad. Blood clots (the most common cause of heart attacks and stroke) are bad. But you have to have cholesterol to live.

Agreed. It is carbohydrates, which all turn into sugars in our bloodstream, which causes the inflammation and damage to the endothelium that requires plaque to repair. It’s not even the plaque that causes heart attacks and strokes, it is when the plaque has so narrow the arteries that a blood clot (usually from soft plaque that has burst) can block the artery in question. Cholesterol doesn’t cause heart attacks anymore than firemen cause fires. Both are present in order to deal with the problem, but the pharmaceutical and food industries want everyone to believe that high cholesterol causes heart attacks so that we buy their products.

Smart doctor. A few years ago, I read the book Wheat Belly, by Wm Davis, MD. He proved that wheat causes cholesterol. I stopped eating wheat right away and my choleterol was normal two months later.
I buy BFree Bread, made ENTIRELY of seeds, make avocado toast with it in the microwave , plop poached pasture-raised eggs on top. Delish and really good for you. Pasture-raised eggs cost a little more, but have lots more healthy omega 3.

He’s close. Eggs are not the problem, but carbs (i.e., bread) certainly is. The only mistake by your doctor is targeting cholesterol...he needs to target Triglycerides - get that nice and low (hopefully below 80) on low carb and the rest falls into place.
