Putin Agrees To Trump’s Peace Plan, Squashing Media’s ‘Puppet’ Narrative

On Thursday Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed tentative support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. This comes amid ongoing negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict that has persisted since Russia’s invasion in 2022.

During a news conference at the Kremlin alongside Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Putin acknowledged Russia’s agreement “in principle” to the U.S.-proposed ceasefire. However, he stressed the necessity of addressing the “root causes” of the crisis to ensure a lasting peace.

Putin stated that several details need to be sorted out before finalizing the ceasefire agreement. “The idea [of a ceasefire] itself is correct and we are certainly supporting it, but there are issues that need to be discussed,” he said, according to an NBC translation.

“I think that we need to talk to our American colleagues and partners. Maybe call President Trump and discuss it together.”

“But we support the very idea of ending this conflict through peaceful means.” Putin added that any deal must “proceed from the fact that this cessation should be such that it would lead to long-term peace and eliminate the root causes of this crisis.”

When asked about the 30-day ceasefire deal brokered by the White House, he responded, “We are in favor of it but there are nuances.”

Putin also raised concerns about how the 30-day period would be used, questioning whether it would serve to “supply weapons” or “train newly mobilized units” and how ceasefire violations would be monitored.

On Tuesday, Zelenskyy agreed to a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire with Russia, aiming to halt the ongoing conflict that began in 2022. The decision followed extensive discussions between U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia. In response, the United States resumed military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

President Trump, who has been vocal about his intentions to broker peace in the region, expressed his optimism regarding Russia’s response to the ceasefire proposal. Following discussions with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Trump conveyed his hope that Russia would “do the right thing” in response to the ceasefire initiative.

Reuters reported that Trump described Putin’s statement as “very promising” but “not complete.” He also expressed willingness to speak with the Russian president to secure a ceasefire.

Trump isn’t Putin’s puppet... but what supports the headline? If Trump gives Putin what he wants and Putin agrees, won’t the Press just report that Trump is Putin’s puppet?

Maybe I just can’t read today...

Make it a 14 day ceasefire. If the Z man will screw us over he would certainly screw Putin over too. Let's go for a real "end the war" deal. Everybody gives up stuff - everyone gets stuff. If that can't be hammered out in 14 days then the whole thing isn't close enough to bother.

Putin most certainly has not agreed to unconditional ceasefire and there is no reason to believe he will.

It’s not that your not reading right, you’re not thinking right.
Putin is agreeing to Trump’s plan, not the other way around.

The ‘press’ hates Trump. They’ll blame him no matter what happens. If there’s peace, they’ll say he gave too much away, if there’s war they’ll say it was his fault. Surely you know how the press functions by now, right?

Yes. That's why I wrote what I wrote. In what way does this "squash" the Press's media narrative?

Make it a 90 day ceasefire...AND no OFFENSIVE weapons shipped to Ukraine during that time period....from any source.

Releasing POWs can be done during this time period.

Let's get them to the table...

Predictably, the headline bears no relation to the truth of the article. Putin didn’t agree to anything, and Trump himself is quoted as a saying Putin’s response is “promising” but not “complete”.

Strange headline. Putin agreed to the idea of making peace. Nothing new. He did not agree to an immediate unconditional ceasefire.

The terms of the peace deal have yet to be discussed. We know what Putin’s terms are. He’s told us over and over.

Putin stated that several details need to be sorted out before finalizing the ceasefire agreement.

In other words, Putin has rejected an immediate ceasefire to allow for negotiations. He is demanding that his terms be met before there is a ceasefire.

Trump and others in the administration have offered carrots to Putin without getting anything in return. Putin is probably angling to get more free carrots before any negotiations.

The war BS must end. It sucks energy from MAGA. If the EU wants to have continuous high tension conflict and/or another “cold war” that’s on them.

From start to finish, how many weeks did it take for Ukraine to agree to cease fire?

Yes, if this attempt to bring peace doesn’t work, then I say none of our business and if euro wienies pull into a full war we stay out of that as well, which means no arms deals.
