The president will have his annual physical with Sean Barbabella, DO, next month
President Trump's new physician is Sean Barbabella, DO, a Navy emergency physician who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, and has "extensive combat trauma experience," according to reportsopens in a new tab or window.
Battlefield emergency response experience is apparently important to Trump, who faced two assassination attemptsopens in a new tab or window during his recent presidential election campaign.
Barbabella was awarded a Purple Heart after being injured in a blast from an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2009, and a Legion of Merit award in 2012 for his service as a division surgeon in Afghanistan. There, he "was a pioneering physician of the Mobile Trauma Bay, a large armored vehicle used in combat to treat wounded [veterans] on the battlefield," according to an alumni publicationopens in a new tab or window from his alma mater.
Barbabella graduated in 1996 from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine at A.T. Still University in Missouri, and went on to a residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia. He subsequently completed several tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the Times of Londonopens in a new tab or window, which first reported Barbabella's appointment to Trump's team.
On March 1, the White House issued a statement from Barbabella that Trump will have his annual physical "next month" at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, adding that the date of the appointment would be released "in the next few weeks."
While the role of the president's physician is typically filled by a military doctor, Barbabella has no previous experience in the White House medical unit, according to the Times.
Most recently, he led the Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point in Havelock, North Carolina, which announced on X in Januaryopens in a new tab or window that Barbabella was leaving his post for a job with the White House medical unit. The White House had not announced his appointment at that time.
Barbabella had taken the post at Cherry Point in 2023. Prior to that, he served as executive officer at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
Barbabella's combat trauma experience from his deployments would be valuable in a major emergency, such as an attempt on the president's life. The first such attempt occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania, during a Trump rally on July 13opens in a new tab or window. It was followed by a less dramatic attempt in South Florida in September.
Trump had two physicians during his first term in office. Ronny Jackson, MD, served in the role until mid-2018opens in a new tab or window, when he stepped down to be Trump's nominee to run the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) -- though he later withdrew his candidacy. Jackson, a Navy captain and former combat physician, now serves in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Texas.
Jackson, who did not return to his role as the president's physician after withdrawing from his VA candidacy, was followed by Sean Conley, DO, a Navy emergency physician. Conley was involved in Trump's treatment for COVIDopens in a new tab or window in October 2020, when the president was given supplemental oxygen, remdesivir (Veklury), and dexamethasone.
Correction: Ronny Jackson, MD, was demotedopens in a new tab or window from rear admiral to captain in 2022 after an inspector general report substantiating allegations of inappropriate behavior.
Why not the previous doctor(s) ?
How can you tell Trump’s doctor?
He has an Orange Finger.
Dr. Ronny Jackson is the US Representative for Texas Congressional District 13.
he needs a combat medic he gets shot sometimes
Slight alteration of the old family name.
Apologies for reminding us of the evil Hanoi Jane.
No one knows where it’s been.
Dr. Sean Connelly teaches at the US military med school.
May the Lord guide his hands. Pres. Trump isn’t one to slow down, and 78 is a lot of mileage.
That’s about the most scrambled up piece of garbage I’ve ever seen printed.
Which injury was worse? The blast from the IED, or the blast from the Legion of Merit award?
“He subsequently completed several tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the Times of Londonopens in a new tab or window, which first reported Barbabella’s appointment to Trump’s team.”
Even if the cut and paste had been decent, this sentence stinks:
“He subsequently completed several tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the Times of Londonopens in a new tab or window, which first reported Barbabella’s appointment to Trump’s team.”
Parse that sentence and see that it was the tour of duty that made the report. Well, at least we know the Times of London reports to Trump’s team. Nice to have control of a respected newspaper.
Remember how Biden’s doctor told all of us that he was just fine?
LIAR.
Dr. Vinnie Boombatz
I want Ozzy’s doctor.
Note this:
“...Conley was involved in Trump’s treatment for COVID in October 2020, when the president was given supplemental oxygen, remdesivir (Veklury), and dexamethasone. ...”
Remdesivir.
President Trump is d@mn lucky to be alive.
“he needs a combat medic he gets shot sometimes”
I was thinking the same thing.
It is a reminder of how cute she was before evil took her over completely.
That was my thought.
