The best explanation I’ve read about Atlantis is that it was near Malaga, Spain on the coast and was destroyed by a tidal wave. An earthquake offshore caused a tsunami that leveled Lisbon in 1755. One a little to the South would have destroyed Atlantis in ancient times. No need to look too far for Atlantis. It was there in Spain, beyond the Pillars of Hercules as Plato wrote, but perhaps not actually an island.
