Former illegal immigrant aide to AOC self-deports to Colombia amid questions about employment: report

An illegal immigrant who once served as an aide to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has reportedly self-deported to Colombia, praising the "freedom of movement" in the South American nation after working in Congress despite being in the country illegally.

Diego de la Vega was born in Ecuador and immigrated to the United States as a 7-year-old in 2001 on a visitor’s visa that he overstayed, Migrant Insider reported.

The news raises thorny questions about his employment status for the Queens-based congresswoman.

"It’s bittersweet. I hadn’t left the country in 23 years — from age seven to age 30," de la Vega told Migrant Insider. "Now, I can’t go back to the U.S. It feels like exile. It’s a very permanent move. But my wife and I are confident we made the right decision. And, after some time, it’s been a real pleasure to be here.

"It feels surreal to not be illegalized anymore. I don’t have to live in the shadows or constantly worry about paperwork," he added. "That freedom of movement is incredibly satisfying."

De la Vega became politically active after the failure of the Dream Act in 2010, when the legislation fell just five votes short in the Senate.

See they are better off where they are legal citizens. Everyone wins.

Pablo Escobar was very big on his freedom of movement in Colombia.

“Pablo Escobar was very big on his freedom of movement in Colombia.”

According to my wife, there is a significant percentage of Chinese illegals who are going back to China. There is also a growing number legal immigrants in places like Vancouver that are permanently returning HK or China due to cost of living issues in Canada

So-called “freedom of movement” is a slogan of the EUSSR, and appears nowhere in the founding documents of the USA.

How did he get a social security number to work for the government if he came here at the age of 7 and overstayed his visa. The article says DACA were banned from working in Congressional offices, so did he pay taxes on the salary he received all the years he worked, or was he paid under the table?

How many classified briefings did he attend?

Who signed off on his security clearance, if he had one?

Maybe he “borrowed” a legit SSN from someone who passed away years ago. DOGE should be able to run those matches to see how often this is happening.

30 years and he never sought out a legal path to be and stay here?

I have zero sympathy for him.

He may well be at risk for more than just unauthorized residency and that’s why he beat it. The wife, too.

I’ll bet you are right. Maybe he was using a fraudulent SSN. Or worse.

"What about security clearance?!"

That's a good question. I wonder if anyone will follow up on this guy and get to the bottom of what access to sensitive information he had while working for AOC.

“It feels surreal to not be illegalized anymore in Ecuador. I don’t have to live in the shadows or constantly worry about paperwork,” said Diego de la Vega underplaying his criminality....he came to the US in 2001 on a visitor’s visa and illegally overstayed.

The news raises thorny questions about crimes illegal Diego de la Vega may have committed in his US govt job......employed by AOC.....the Queens-based Democrat.

What exactly did Diego de la Vega do in Congress?

Did he have anything to do with the hundreds of millions the U.S. has provided Ecuador? Foreign aid, including $39 million in development funding in 2023, and $117.3 million through USAID since 2020. Additionally, counternarcotics and counter-transnational organized crime capacity building assistance totals $81 million since 2018.

Was Ecuador paying him while he was in a govt job?

Did he get a cut of the USAID millions?

Did he have security clearance?

Did Diego de la Vega make top secret info available to anyone else?

Did AOC facilitate this?
