Remember the AC Cobra? Yup, the iconic car that pays homage to the Shelby Cobra of the 1960s. It’s set to make its North American debut in the form of the new Swedish-made Cobra GT Roadster, at the ModaMiami auto show later this month.
AC Cars – which is still around – is one of the oldest independent carmakers in the world. But for the past few years, the British brand underwent numerous name changes and liquidations thanks to a series of poor financial decisions.
Since 2022, Swedish businessman David Conza has been leading AC Cars, and in the last three years, the company has experienced a sort of comeback. The new Cobra GT Roadster was unveiled by AC Cars back in April 2023 after a lengthy period of electrifying a few vehicles in its range. This was soon followed by the introduction of the Cobra GT Coupé in 2024.

i just KNEW this was going to be yet another ill begotten day-late-dollar-short EV, but i was pleasantly surprised to be wrong!!!
How bogged down in the US safety standard and regulations will this thing need to be?
So much for a new affordable roadster.
Starting around $250,000. Very few available. US regs won’t be the worst problem.
AC Cars manufactures its cars at its UK facility, with German engineering expertise. But high demand has forced AC to go to Sweden-based T-Engineering for additional production. T-Engineering was formed by former Saab engineers in the early 2010s and is backed by Chinese automaker Dongfeng. So, to get it serviced, do I need to know English, German, Swedish or Mandarin?
It’s sweet-ish, but I’d be happy is Saab brought back, well, Saab. Great cars. The Trollhättan factory churned out some fun, reliable wheels.
Just another Saab story.....................
yes....................
*snock*
Just trolling for trolls in Trollhattan
I thought this looked like a fun summer ride in the Idaho mountains...until I saw this...$245,000 for the Roadster and $280,000 for the Coupé.
It was a fun dream for 60 seconds.
it’s a composite body... factory five racing sells these replicas...
looks like a 71 with custom wheels.
Buy a Kirkham Cobra, get an aluminum body and save 100k
I’m 5’9” but I had trouble fitting into an original cobra due to knee clearance. beyond that, at least in the original, the exhaust pipes run externally to the body, so that you can burn your clothing and leg skin if you are not careful how you exit.
plus, if it is running a 427, there are very few mechanics who know how to service them properly.
a cobra with a godzilla engine might be an improvement. still given a choice i would rather have a godzilla powered ford gt.
Made in England, German engineering, the squareheads are involved somehow along with the Chinee.
Building an American sports car.
I’m thinking a 15,000% tariff sounds about right
Superformance has been making licensed Cobras for years. They get the rolling chassis from Hi-Tech in South Africa and install the drivetrains in the US. They mostly use engines built by Roush.
The Cobra never stopped being available. The difference here is the involvement of AC, which was the original supplier of engine-less cars to Shelby.
the original ac cobra body was made of hand crafted aluminum... not fiberglass...
