A clothing-optional spa in California has sparked outrage among transgender protestors after one trans visitor said she was told to cover up during 'Lady's Night.'
'It's exclusion. It's discrimination. It goes against everything that I came here for,' Breath Mormorer, who joined demonstration outside the Russian-style bathhouse Archimedes Banya in San Francisco, told CBS News.
'I came from Alabama specifically to escape that type of prejudice and hate. And I got here and I found out this city has just as much of it,' she added.
The spa offers one women-only night and one men-only night each month. On its website, the spa said the events are designed to 'shelter religious preferences' of men and women in the community.
'To further accommodate their religious beliefs we have to limit admission on [both nights] to sex assigned at birth,' the site explains. A protester named Jordan told CBS News that the spa's policy 'set off some alarm bells for me.'
'In a lot of pre-Christian Slavic cultures there was a lot of, gender and sexuality was much more fluid... and it was put down by the Christians,' said Jordan, noting she is of Slavic origin.
'But even without all that, there are a lot of Catholic, Orthodox Jewish and Muslim people who are trans allies if not trans themselves.'
In response, the spa released a statement announcing an 'Inclusive Women's Night' for all individuals who identify as women, regardless of sex assigned at birth.

We have learned tha some of our members are confused as to wether they are boys or girls, in an effort to not offend anyone we are CANCELLING ALL SAME SEX nights. No girls night, no boys night.
DFW has a great Russian banya, it’s always coed and clothing optional in the wet area, sauna and mandatory in the cold plunge. Second Wednesday of every month is mandatory nudity in the whole establishment including the lounge and restaurant. No one would care if someone was make, female or “other” I guess if you had silicon and male parts it might stand out but no one is looking at junk to begin with. Europeans can be nude and it’s not a big deal.
My banya has never had single gender nights, so it’s moot. And the nudist beach, and community in central Texas, or the Gulf of America coast both has always been coed again moot. Same for Jamaica at Hedonism II and also Hedonism in the Bahamas. Being raised as a white European who has two passports , with years spend abroad in the UK, Germany and Russia both as a adolescent, teen and adult it’s not an issue at all.

That’s a fact. I was in Austria on a ski vacation and staying at a nice resort. I came off the glacier, threw on my swim suit and hit the hot tub. When I got out, I jumped into the shower room for a rinse off and with my back turned heard someone giggling. I turned around and there were four Austrian women in their birthday suits pointing at my trunks. I smiled, nodded my head and stripped off (why not? - when in Rome, do as the Roman’s). It was great until my girlfriend came in from the hot tub….
The only things assigned at birth are your name and your SSN.
You can legally change your name. I’m not sure if you can change your SSN.
Gender and sexuality was much more fluid.
