Daryl Hall Says There Will Never Be a Reunion With John Oates

Daryl Hall says there will never be a reunion with his former musical partner John Oates.

Back in November 2023, Hall filed a lawsuit (as well as obtained a temporary restraining order) against Oates, trying to prevent him from selling his share of the Hall & Oates catalog to Primary Wave Music. Hall claimed that such a move would violate the terms of the duo's business agreement.

Now, over.a year after the litigation was made public, Hall is certain he and Oates will not be able mend their differences.

"That ship has gone to the bottom of the ocean," he recently told The Times. "I've had a lot of surprises in my life, disappointments, betrayals, so I'm kind of used to it."

These days, Hall works with various other people. His most recent album, 2024's D, was co-written and co-produced with Dave Stewart, with whom he's worked with on several projects. Hall's relationship with Stewart, he said, is different than the one he had with Oates: "It's more meaningful, a real collaborative relationship — and it's based on maturity."

John Oates Agrees: The Band Is Done

On the other side, Oates also appears to be just fine with Hall & Oates being over. He also has spent recent years collaborating with others, including Vince Gill, Jerry Douglas and more.

"As far as I'm concerned, I've moved on," Oates told Rolling Stone last year. "I feel like I have a new lease on my creative life."

My favorite is the one with Billy Gibbons.

I could do with never hearing them again. So…this is OK!

I saw them last year in live concert and they were NOT good at all. Sometimes you have to know when to leave.

Liked some of their stuff, other not so much...the “other” saturated the airwaves, unfortunately.

The other guy did the writing and producing.

He was the Force behind Wham!

He and Michaels were childhood friends.

Andrew Ridgeley wrote most of “Careless Whisper”.

He had a great vocal on Possession Obsession off the Big Bam Boom album. The song is very well done but the video sucks. Excellent music and production.

I never cared for their music, but they had a load of pop hits in the 80's, and that catalog has to be worth something. Considering they worked together for the most part of fifty years, it's a rather strange way to end. But, creative people live in a different world.

The catalog is likely worth $100million, so that will definitely strain a relationship if your partner wants to sell, and you don't.

While I love all things Cheap Trick and agree it was overall good episode, the version of Surrender where Daryl Hall starts harmonizing in places and directions that are just cringe worthy.
It is a shame because Daryl Hall is a very talented musician, (if a little full of himself but many lead singer types are) and Cheap Trick is great but Daryl’s House hands off Surrender please.

Early on, it seemed they couldn’t really find their style. They had a few hits in the 70’s that were great, like Sara Smile and She’s Gone. Rich Girl was OK, but totally different. Then the 80’s happened and they finally found themselves. Unfortunately what they found was horrible garbage like I Can’t Go For That, Maneater and Kiss on my List.

Mrs. Montag was a megafan of theirs in the 80s and will re-obsess over them every few years if something triggers it. I try really hard to avoid doing so.

Dang...after reading all the replies, I’m ashamed to admit that I like Hall and Oates. But...I do...guess I need to check my man card.
