LOS ANGELES -- The 2025 Oscars are officially here.
Conan O'Brien is hosting the 97th Academy Awards, which honor the best in cinema from the past year.
"Emilia Pérez" leads the field of nominees this year with 13 total Oscar nominations, just one shy of tying the record for most nominations by a single film held by "All About Eve," "Titanic" and "La La Land."
"The Brutalist" and "Wicked" follow closely behind with 10 nominations each, while "A Complete Unknown" and "Conclave" round out the top-nominated films with eight nods apiece.
This year's show will honor the city of Los Angeles, showcasing its resilience in the wake of the wildfires that left at least 29 dead and destroyed thousands of homes.
The Oscars ceremony is live on ABC now and is streaming live on Hulu for the first time.

I like Conan O’Brien. But I’m still not watching.

Hollywood reached peak woke several years ago. The sane people are trying to find a path back. It wasn’t just the audience tuning out, though that was a factor. The covid shutdowns, the strikes and the failure of the streaming model created a perfect storm. For me, CODA winning Best Picture over The Power of the Dog was a signal that the balance was starting to shift.
This year’s nominations are a disaster because these films were all products of the post strike rainshadow and the pickins’ were slim. And a lot of them were in development back during the peak woke era; it takes years for the big films to run through the process, which is why most of the best movies the last few years have been small indie films. 2024 was the worst year for major new theatrical releases that I can remember.
My fingers are crossed but I’m hoping for slow improvement. A lot of people are being let go, and many big companies, including some in the film industry, are pulling back on DEI. We’ll see.
Brother called me and told me to put on the Oscars tonight because Conan O’Brien was hosting. I wasn’t going to but I did because he pretty much begged me to watch.
Wow was I surry. The two yucky singers, one of which they sasy isn’t a trans but I think, yeah, that’s a man in a dress. The other, tatoo on the back shoulder, ugh.
Turned down the sound and patiently waited through that for Conan O’Brien.
He starts with this disgusting imagery of coming out of a person.
Yeah, that’s when I turned it off and went to the store.
Hollywood is woke and when they see the ratings they won’t wake up either.

"The Substance" is a satire about female beauty...I think...Demi Moore character decided to try some special medicine to "look young"...
A segment on James Bond...Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli were shown...I read that Jeff Bezos probably paid them 1 billion dollars to get the creative control of Bond films...Bond songs are being performed...LIVE AND LET DIE...DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER...SKYFALL...
We saw CABRINI at a theater in 2024. It was the best movie of the year, IMO. As far as I can tell, it was not nominated for any award tonight. Wonderful movie…
We also thought highly of ONE LIFE with Anthony Hopkins, which we saw at a theater last Fall.
Kieran Culkin was very good in what I would describe as a ‘difficult watch’. He plays the perpetual f***-up.

I went to the movies last Sunday, to view... Becoming Led Zeppelin, in IMAX format. It was a most excellent use of my afternoon. Run time 2:02. I went with two younger siblings, which made it all the more rewarding.

The last time before this past Sunday, that I went to the movies... was several years ago, and I spent time with the same two younger siblings, and three nieces, going to the same venue with the IMAX format, to see the rock band - Queen’s biographical movie.
I would recommend that movie too, but I did not care for the minor portion dealing with Freddie Mercury’s homosexual relationship, which was not portrayed too detail-oriented or as in-your-face of a style, as it could have been displayed via the big screen.
The commercials while expected, were the lead in, to the previews and there were many, as we arrived early.
The previews, numbering about a dozen, were also of no surprise, and I will not be seeing any of them, especially those that were loaded with DEI messaging, in true boorish Hollywood fashion.

The Academy Awards represent my mortal enemies, and ipso facto, are America’s enemies, so there is that to specifically post, here tonight... to no one in particular.
