“ Brainwashed for sure.
We are old and in the way
Blocking their Hedonist tendencies.”

I learned much of what I know from the people in my family two generations before me

I intend to try. Not give up

“ A bit? looks like the youngest on that list died 50 years ago. And who compiles these idiotic lists?”

Why is it more true than not?

Compile a comparative list from baby boomers and younger

Sam Malone: Then the doctor was right, I’m a shallow guy. I mean, everything I do is to impress women or revolves around sex. I guess I’m nothing more than a hot, manly machine of love.

Coach: Sam, wait. What about the Stooges?

Sam Malone: They’re all right, they’re over at Cliff’s.

Coach: No, no, Sam. What about the Three Stooges?

Sam Malone: Oh, yeah, great. I like the Three Stooges. That helps a lot.

Coach: Wait a minute, Sam. Think about this.

Do women like the Three Stooges?

Sam Malone: No, they hate them.

Coach: All right.

Are women impressed that
you like the Three Stooges?

Sam Malone: No, some of them even think they’re stupid.

Coach: When you’re watching
the Three Stooges, do you think they’re sexy?

Sam Malone: No, when you watch the Three Stooges, nobody has time to think about sex or women.

Hey, wait a minute.

That means I do have another interest in my life.

I like the Stooges for themselves.

Hey, whoa, I’m okay.

Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk!

I think Robert Mitchum is the coolest man who ever lived.

Fred McMurray

The Caine Mutiny. What a slimeball he was in that role. Jose Ferrer should have just decked him instead of just throwing the drink in his face.

Bette Davis? Not so much. No real glamour there. She belongs with working actresses Joan Crawford and Barbara Stanwick, not with legends like Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, and Ingrid Bergman. Even actresses lower down on the list like Grace Kelly, Vivien Leigh, and Lauren Bacall have left more of an impression than Bette Davis or Joan Crawford.

Otherwise, the list is a good representation of “Old Hollywood.” It’s a list that could have been made 50 years ago. Everything was sorted out then and hasn’t changed since then.

Probably because the idea of a “legend” is someone from the past. There is the term “living legend” because legend usually does not denote someone living.

This isn’t just a best actor’s list. I think the term “legend” implies deceased. Gene Hackman just made the cut.

Hedley Lamarr

Not well known about that beauty was that she was also an electronics genius. She invented "spread spectrum" radio communications.
