Agreed! I was looking at a list of “most Oscar nominated” which may be more all encompassing, but even that doesn’t include iconic, beloved figures like Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock — albeit all three have been recognized by the Academy at some point!
Great list in your post. Gene Hackman, Clint Eastwood, James Garner, Steve McQueen, and Charlton Heston were American screen legends for sure.
Yes as far as Oscars go, Daniel Day Lewis has the most wins.
All from previous generations and the golden age of Hollywood. Wonder why no one from, say, post 1970 shows up here.

Yes.
That happened to me for Argo -Ben Affleck, Richard III - Laurence Olivier
You’d do it for Randolph Scott!
Brainwashed for sure.

Maybe the website doesn't consider later films and actors to be worthy?
But, the actors who started out in the 70s, 80s, and 90s are older now, and they have a long list of films to their credit.
Many actors who started out in the 80s and 90s are now in their 60s. Which ones would be considered legendary? If I made a list, Tom Cruise would be on it.
“Song of the South” is available, but only on the black market. I saw it in the theater in 1958.
Oh, I see. That answers the question in my post #76.
I loved her in "Pigskin Parade" (1936), one of my all-time favorites. It was shot at Occidental College, my alma mater.
A bit? looks like the youngest on that list died 50 years ago. And who compiles these idiotic lists?
