Washington Post subscribers cancel in droves after Jeff Bezos overhauls opinion page
NY Post ^ | 2/28/25 | Ariel Zilber

More than 75,000 digital subscribers have canceled their subscriptions to The Washington Post following an announcement by its owner, Jeff Bezos, that the paper’s opinion section would be revamped to align with libertarian ideals touting “personal liberties” and “free markets,” according to a report.

The decision, which Bezos announced on Wednesday, triggered immediate upheaval within the organization, including the resignation of opinions editor David Shipley, who had unsuccessfully attempted to dissuade Bezos from the change.

A previous mass exodus of subscribers began in late October when Bezos reportedly blocked a planned endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

Between that decision and Election Day, over 300,000 subscribers severed ties with the Post, amounting to more than 12% of its digital subscribers.

Despite an aggressive push to attract new subscribers — adding 400,000 at discounted rates — the paper still has suffered a “net loss of a couple hundred thousand” paying subscribers, NPR reported.

Many within the newsroom believe that without Bezos’ interventions, the paper’s subscriber base would have remained significantly higher, according to National Public Radio, which first reported the latest round of cancellations.

Whatever happened to the left's love of (cue Michael Savage's voice) diverrrrrsity and incluuuuuusion? Why aren't they celebrating and accepting of differences of opinion?

Such phonies.

The LAAP-dog media is going nuts over this, claiming that WaPo is banning both sides of issues.

Bezos said that the Post would not publish editorials regarding "personal liberties and free markets", but would continue to publish editorials on both sides of other issues.

This means that leftist "journalists" are protesting for dictatorships and communism.

Further PROOF that Democrats do not believe in diversity or personal liberty....only obedience to the party.

If the Post's people believed in personal liberties and free markets they wouldn't be working at the WaPo in the first place.

It will be a miracle if the trashy communist propaganda rag Wash(ed-up) Post can be made into a respectable publication.
I’m not holding my breath

So, if as a conservative MAGA Trump supporter, I subscribed to a conservative leaning voice like the Washington Examiner or perhaps Just the News. If they were to suddenly change their editorial opinions page. Lets say they hired a bunch of democrat trump hating TDS infected hacks that started writing Op Eds about how evil is trump and everyone that voted for him. I would probably unsubscribe from them and spit on the ground every time I hear their name.

But would that mean that democrats and the antifa crowd would then flock to subscribe to them? I don’t think so. I think that they have their outlets that they trust and they will stay with the ones that they trust. I would have big trouble subscribing to or trusting the content of the WaPo after all these years of deceit, corruption and betrayal. This deathbed overhaul will only succeed in burning his paper to the ground.

The Post used to represent the point of view of moderate Democrats and Official Washington. I used to read it to find out what they were thinking. When they became tiresomely woke, I gave up on them. If they can go back to the old Post, I would read that newspaper again.

Bezos is making a good start but he has a long way to go to eliminate left wing bias from the WaPo. Most of the bias consists of ignoring stories and other information that may be harmful to the Democrats. To address this, Bezos must appoint a new individual to decide which stories are going to be covered and investigated. They could start by investigating USAID and Biden family corruption, as well as previous corruption in the FBI, and the political motivation behind the criminal prosecutions of Trump. Another topic might be the objectivity of climate scientists, and the views of climate skeptics.

Bezos certainly knew the Post would never make him a dime, even when he bought it.

When these people cancel a subscription, do they get a refund? If so, DOGE should probably initiate that action.

The reason you would quit the publication is because you are not radical, but a sensible conservative who enjoys the truth.

The reason that th3 lefties are quitting is much different and is because they are communists that can’t stand any position but their own, and who don’t want diversity at all.

And it must be pointed out, bozos isn’t hiring racial far right pundits to give thei4 opinions, but the radical left who are already entrench3d in the wapo are furious that sensible articles which expound on truth are being allowed because they know that the left’s fi.thy lies won’t be able to be front and center 24/7 anymore wi5hout any pushback via truth and common sense.

There would be a big difference between why you quit and why the radical left are quitting. In your case, your truth news site is being turned into a nest of vipers and liars, while in th case of the wapo, bozos is introducing common sense and a smidgen of truth, and the vile radicals that are quitting it can’t abide that.

There is no good news here. Bezos i.e. the king of free trade, who ran Amazon - a Chinese Communist Party storefront, is advocating “Free Markets”. What a joke.
