Here's what Grok 3 had to say about it.
As of today, February 26, 2025, at 10:07 AM EST, there was indeed a lockdown at Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily, Italy, earlier this morning. The lockdown began around 7:54 AM local time (1:54 AM EST) due to a security incident involving a suspected vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) at the NAS 2 entry control point. Out of caution, a shelter-in-place order was issued for NAS 2 at approximately 8:38 AM local time (2:38 AM EST).

However, the situation has since been resolved. After a thorough investigation by Naval Security Forces, alongside Italian explosives disposal specialists and local police, the suspected threat was determined to be a false alarm. The lockdown and shelter-in-place order were lifted at 11:25 AM local time (5:25 AM EST), and no injuries were reported.

Traffic into and out of the base has resumed normally. So, while the rumor of a lockdown was true earlier today, it is no longer in effect as of this moment. The base is back to regular operations, and the incident has been cleared with no credible threat found.

Note much has been made of Italy’s new approach to their military. Very pro Trump.
