WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration moved its fast-paced dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development toward what appeared to be its final phases, telling all but a fraction of staffers worldwide that they were on leave as of Monday and notifying at least 1,600 of the U.S.-based staffers they were being fired.
The move was the latest and one of the biggest steps in what President Donald Trump and cost-cutting ally Elon Musk say is their goal of gutting the six-decade-old aid and development agency in a broader campaign to slash the size of the federal government.
The move comes after a federal judge on Friday allowed the administration to move forward with its plan to pull thousands of USAID staffers off the job in the United States and around the world. U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols rejected pleas in a lawsuit from employees to keep temporarily blocking the government’s plan.
“As of 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday, February 23, 2025, all USAID direct hire personnel, with the exception of designated personnel responsible for mission-critical functions, core leadership and/or specially designated programs, will be placed on administrative leave globally,” according to the notices sent to USAID workers that were viewed by The Associated Press.
At the same time, the agency said in the notices to staffers that it was beginning a firing process called reduction in force that would eliminate 2,000 U.S.-based jobs. A version of the notice posted later on USAID's website put the number of positions to be eliminated lower, at 1,600.

This is one agency that should be eliminated and restated with totally new people.
Over 10,000 usaid employees
All kinds of rhetoric about eliminating the agency
1600 employees eliminated leaves 84%
Sounds like we’re being double talked by somebody
Don’t be ridiculous,
You shoulda stopped at: “one agency that should be eliminated...”
US government spending is out of control
To put things into perspective, there was a huge debate and public uproar when the Clinton Administration pushed through a then unprecedented one billion dollar aid package for Haiti.
Now we find out that somehow Stacy Abram newly created NGO was awarded a 2 billion grant and she was required to disburse the entire two billion dollars in funds in two months.
The NGO had contribution of just 100 dollars the year before.so in order to qualify qualify for the funds, the NGO was given 90 days to complete budget drafting training course
So the NGO had two months to blow two billion bucks which would have been one month before completing its mandatory learn how to draft a budget 101 course. ( ie budgeting for idiots short course)
So basically , Stacy Abrams stole two billion dollars of tax payer money which is twice the sum for disaster relief for an entire country . In fact, it's actually more than FEMA had for hurricane relief for North Carolina
1600 employees eliminated leaves 84%
*********
That’s the key number and doesn’t put out front
of the entire process. 84% still have jobs. My
guess would be that many gov’t agencies could be
reduced thus helping the tax payers who fund all
this crap..........
Probably - but what about an agency that pushes common sense ideas rather than sexual weirdo/WOKE ideas? Something like ‘first world countries might pass on protecting corrupt hellhole countries - keep it free and honest”. Or ‘humanitarian food’ to Gaza - “kill innocents and the food stops here”. Or not. Shut it down is probably best.
EV mandates cause US automakers to slash over 10,000 jobs.
No shedding a tear.
Learn to code.
The smart Federal employees were the 75000 who took the early retirement. They got out probably because they were already elligable for their federal pension.
My brother retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons two years ago at the ripe old age of 56. He could have retired a few years earlier than that. He started working there at the age of 22.
His wife also worked there. It is how they met. She retired at 49. After putting in 27 years.
I suspect a lot of the people who took the early deal were people who were in their same position.
No such USAID agency is necessary or needed. It exists solely to distribute US taxpayer money unaccountably and often as not opposite to the best interests of the UnitedStates (ahem, CIA slush fund for international mayhem in accordance with deepState goals).
If there is a humanitarian need that the US should address Congress should SPECIFICALLY fund it, not a free for all bottomless credit card to the world given by unaccountable bureaucrats and dirty actors.

You’re right. It’s a horror - a slush fund for for creepy democrats. Just end it.
Amen to the above... you've found a much better solution.
