Sir Keir Starmer will discuss the importance of Ukraine's sovereignty in talks with Donald Trump next week, he said in a call with the country's president.

The UK prime minister reiterated the UK's "ironclad support" for Kyiv when he spoke to Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday.

The two leaders held their second telephone conversation in four days following US President Trump's decision to re-open relations with Russia and seek an end to the war in Ukraine.

Monday marks three years since Vladimir Putin's invasion, which UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said he will mark with further sanctions on Russia.

On Saturday, 2,000 people marched to the Russian embassy in west London , i n support of Ukraine ahead of the anniversary of the invasion.

According to a Downing Street spokesperson the prime minister also said "Ukraine must be at the heart of any negotiations to end the war" and it could be sure of "the UK's commitment to securing a just and enduring peace to bring an end to Russia's illegal war".

Giving details about the phone call, Downing Street said Sir Keir and Zelensky "agreed that this was a significant moment for the future of Ukraine and European security at large".

Sir Keir also told Zelensky "that safeguarding Ukraine's sovereignty was essential to deter future aggression from Russia".

Starmer is going to get slapped down?

The media in the U.K. are saying Starmer's meeting next week is the most important with a US leader since WW2

You are quite free to make the UK the country to guarantee Ukraine’s sovereignty Starmer. Use your troops and your people, and your own money to do it.

We are also free to leave NATO in order to protect the US from any war that your foolish acts may cause to draw us into a war with Russia.

Now, why are you even bothering to come here doofus?

Apparently, the UK feels they have a “special relationship” with Ukraine. I certainly hope that this helps the UK survive the struggles of the 21st century, just like the special relationship — that they used to have — with the US helped them survive the struggles of the 20th century.

Trump should reject the ambassador that UK send. He is a bona-fide anti Trump.

WGA# what the media in the uk are saying.

WGA# what this clown says or doesn’t say.

It ‘s a war that was provoked purpoosefully by NATO and its digsusting oligarch and dem partners.

There is no “crisis” in Europe except the one they made and wanted.

Tell Russia they keep the land they won and ukraine may NEVER join NATO and the war ends.

Russia’s military is in no shape to roll across Europe, it’s laughable.

And the US is STILL part of NATO (I wish it wasn’t) which makes it even MORE laughable.

Aside from the time it would take to mobilize, if the US took longer than 2 months to take all of Ukraine in a one on one war, I’d be embarassed.

We’re going on the fourth year, I think, and Russia has 20ish percent of Ukraine.

I think Europe is safe.

He will ONLY be happy when Russia nukes London.

What does this vague and nearly meaningless statement even imply? Like a darn Nostrodamus quarrying, so enigmatic it could mean almost anything you want it to. Do the Brits even have enough force to project power beyond their borders these days, without needing it fir social unrest at home?

Reflexively, I am inclined to agree, but there is a counter point that the anti-Trump Peter Mandelson may be well suited to delivering hard truths to the Brits back home that Trump is to be taken seriously because he has the domestic political backing to prevail in a showdown. If Mandelson gets out of line though, send him packing in a humiliating manner as an example of what FAFO means.

Meanwhile...

Just ran across this, on a preview of coming taxation attractions.....

https://x.com/db_fink/status/1893395624172888299

Long read, but if that’s accurate, the UK is well and truly screwed if the citizenry doesn’t wrest control back from their Deep State...

And there’s no way US taxpayers should be bailing this out.

Trump already doesn’t like Starmer, but he will be cordial to him.

Behind the scenes will be quite different. Civil, but Starmer isn’t getting anything.

Ukraine is not a country. It is an organized crime syndicate. It is widely considered the most corrupt place on Earth.
