A shooting just outside Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico left one airman dead and another hospitalized early Saturday morning, the Air Force said.

Members of the 377th Security Forces Squadron responded to an incident at the Albuquerque base’s Truman Gate around 2 a.m. Saturday.

The airman was found dead at the scene, the Air Force said.

The second wounded airman was shot in the hand and has been released from the hospital, the Air Force said in the release.

In an update, the Air Force said an incident led to an off-base pursuit that resulted in the shooting.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is investigating the shooting along with the FBI and Albuquerque Police Department.

The Air Force added that there is no threat to the public.

The military did not reveal the identity of the shooter or say if anyone is in custody.

Albuquerque police aren’t searching for any more suspects, police spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos told the Associated Press.

Could be a domestic dispute. Or terrorists. Or cartels. Who had antifafa in NM on Saturday?

Prayers for the Deceased and their Family. And for those injured.

Are Our Military allowed to have Live Ammunition on their person and in their weapons while they’re on Base/Duty or are they just carrying a firearm with empty/no magazines that are just a hammer or club ???

I’m not sure either way but having it and not locked and loaded is too late to the party. Rules of Engagement is the issue. That crap of “unless you are fired at, do not load and fire is bull💩. Our folks need to be ready for their safety. IMO

Weapons are live.
There’s no telling what sparked this incident

I fully agree and is why I am asking. Last I heard they were not allowed to have ready and functional weapon.

True. My guess women or money. I’m just an old fart though. Now is different than it was in the 70’s. We generally settled things short of shooting each other. There’s a lot we ain’t knowing. Nice to know a gate guard can go hot. Wish the boys could’ve stop the Lebanon issue in Reagan’ time would’ve saved us some good men. Marines, if memory serves me right. Regards

There isn’t much difference between Albuquerque and Mexico City.

correct. The only ones allowed to have live firearms are MP’s and gate security...

Is there a consensus on here from those familiar with both places that this is where we are now?

I was wondering if the local police were in a confrontation with the service members. No arrests, and no search for suspects. As others speculate, likely a domestic dispute.

I would say they are probably Security Police/Forces.

Yup. Here's the answer, in the second sentence:

Members of the 377th Security Forces Squadron responded to an incident at the Albuquerque base’s Truman Gate around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Looks like the two shot were gate guards, who are armed with live ammo.

They then chased the assailant out the gate and arrested them after a pursuit.

That would not be accurate according to my son. He is Staff Sgt. at Fort Riley and will be ending his military career this April - so he has been assigned gate duty. No firearms allowed - though the MP’s do carry they are not on gate duty and are only occasionally at the gates parked in there units down the road. He has had 2 BOLO events that included armed and dangerous - and were still denied weapons. Keep in mind that he and his crew are Combat Arms and Iraq Vets.

Except for the military cops (or local LEOs allowed on for special cases), nobody else can carry (legally) on base...it was always a pet peeve of mine - but you can bet there’s always a few of them “illegal” weapons around...I used to have “personal” knowledge....and that’s all I’ll say on the matter.

The guards at the gate are most certainly armed. Inside, usually not. Weapons are always checked into an armory when not used in training. That is a very good rule.
