Tried to get the wife to get one of those...she couldn’t see out the rear window good... She bought a Volvo π‘
First car for me. Was an auto shop project in high school. Crashed it several weeks after it was completed. I did however race a 71 corvette. I did not win. The guy I raced ended up restoring corvettes for his career, I know that because he became my step brother in law. He had a sweet souped up ride.
Get another β69 GTO and rest mod it with a modernized Ram Air V (600 - 800 hp on pump gas). Screw the Vettes, theyβre far from unique. Noe that I had a β69, and my father had an β86 Vette that I drove a lot.
I had to sell my 69 427 Mulsanne blue roadster to buy my first house. π’
“IMO, the 1956-62 Vettes were the best looking and remain the most iconic of the series.”
Had a ‘59. In ‘66-68 it could run with the stock big blocks due to engine mods and 4.56 gears. Curb weight was 2860lbs IIRC, that helped. The ‘59 was a favorite for D Stock.
I currently have a 67 HO black GTO that I have owned since 1990. I currently have it pretty much apart in my shop restoring it. I am hoping to have it done in time for erf day next year for a quick bout of criminal behavior.
I felt that The C1 had limited headroom for tall drivers. The C3 always felt like you were sitting in a hole.
Nice. Do you miss it?
πππ
For old school a ‘66 or ‘67 rat. More modern a C6 Z06 or a C7 Grand Sport.
I like the 63 but I’m looking to do some cross country travel. My 75 sees about 75 miles on a weekend in the warm months. I get lots of looks, thumbs up and questions when I stop but I stay within 50 miles of the house. It’s never failed me but it also has enough storage room for some underwear and a toothbrush if I keep the tops in.
69 GTO was definitely a classic, mine was red, black interior buckets with a 4 speed. My mother borrowed it one day, her car was hard down. Said the GTO was obnoxiously loud. Found out she drove it to town and never got out of 2nd...... π‘π‘π‘ Wasn’t a long or fast drive but the loudness made sense. Had the Thrush glass packs back then.
Yeah... I tell folks it’s an exercise machine getting in and out !!!
‘62 fuelie.
Yes, I miss it, one of the mistakes of youth. It had the removable hardtop, girls loved that.
I’m leaning hard on the C8. They’re actually cheaper than the C7 Grand Sport and Z06s. For whatever reason they’re not holding their value and I’m seeing low mileage 2021 - 2023s with 3 and 4 owners. Makes you wonder if the car is too much, outside what they expected or just scared.
Picking one up in the high 50s to low 60s with low mileage is not uncommon.
Had the Thrush glass packs back then.
Guys could argue mufflers for hours. But they sounded different on different cars, probably due to different bends in the pipes and different motors of course. I had Smitty Steelpacks on a 283 Chevy in a 49 Ford pickup (cost me $425 all ready to go in 72) and guys used to pull up and ask, “What are those mufflers, they sound great!” They go raw when old but sound great until then.
Another trick I used on the vette was well-known. Buy a set of Walker Continental Glasspacks. Stick one end of each muffler in the ground. Pour in a family size Coke and let sit overnight. Killer growl.
Test drive then and see what you prefer.
I have an affinity for a 2013 GS in black. I’ll get one someday.
“EPA is gone and it runs strong.”
I’d be careful about letting this
fact out of the bag.
‘65 vette for my taste.
