69 GTO was definitely a classic, mine was red, black interior buckets with a 4 speed. My mother borrowed it one day, her car was hard down. Said the GTO was obnoxiously loud. Found out she drove it to town and never got out of 2nd...... 😡😡😡 Wasn’t a long or fast drive but the loudness made sense. Had the Thrush glass packs back then.

Guys could argue mufflers for hours. But they sounded different on different cars, probably due to different bends in the pipes and different motors of course. I had Smitty Steelpacks on a 283 Chevy in a 49 Ford pickup (cost me $425 all ready to go in 72) and guys used to pull up and ask, “What are those mufflers, they sound great!” They go raw when old but sound great until then.
Another trick I used on the vette was well-known. Buy a set of Walker Continental Glasspacks. Stick one end of each muffler in the ground. Pour in a family size Coke and let sit overnight. Killer growl.
