Phil Collins’ health is deteriorating. “I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens,” the retired Genesis musician, 74, told Mojo magazine earlier this week. “But I’m not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I’ve been sick, I mean very sick…”
The group performed their last concert in March 2022 as part of their “The Last Domino?” Tour. Although Collins’ former bandmate Peter Gabriel didn’t participate in the gig, he still attended the London show and observed the performance from afar. “Phil wasn’t in as great a shape as he used to be, but they did a great job,” Gabriel admitted. “Me going was a rite of passage, really. I’d been part of the creation of Genesis, so I wanted to be there at the end.”
Collins sang while sitting in a chair as his son Nic Collins, 23, took over for him on the drums. Seven months later, the duo spoke about their line of work and the struggles that accompany it in the documentary “Phil Collins: Drummer First,” which debuted on YouTube in December 2022.

Please don’t kill yourself like Keith Emerson because you think you can’t play anymore
I got a new found respect for Phil Collins, as he was a huge Alamo fan.
He had been buying Alamo memorabilia and artifacts, for years, to preserve them.
He has donated most of them to a museum in Texas, as I understand it.
He cares about our heritage!
Sad. Brilliant rock and pop musician.
I’m sure you’re a Zappa fan, but remember Frank didn’t have a lot of nice things to say about Reagan, neither.
Very sad about Emerson. I think Palmer is still doing the creepy “They’re not dead yet” tour with their images.
I watched the Drummer First, and as a huge Genesis fan, I was just said, he looked like he has something very serious. I fear the worst.
Ironically, the other members of Genesis, all look great. I saw Steve Hackett last year perform the entire Foxtrot album.
Indeed. Emo was really going in a new direction with his compositions. He should have just kept going down that road. Had so much more to offer.
He’s one of the greats. I love his music, but as VDH said yesterday, “We all must age.”
Tipper Gore and the MSRC was his target.
Still you have a point, but the music was too good.
Overlook it.
I do the same with Phil.

This is why it’s good to have more than one skill in life.
This is probably my favorite Phil drumming performance with Genesis...

I saw Genesis in concert at least a dozen times since 1978. I also saw Collins twice solo in the late 80s & 1990.
I have seen all the great rock bands of the 70’s & 80’s in concert and Collins was hands down the best front man i saw. Way better than Freddie Mercury and i saw Queen 4x.
Away from the stage Collins was a high maintenance nightmare who had bad break up after bad break up in relationships, contemplated suicide about 15 years ago and sustained an injury after falling down drunk trying to soothe his pain with alcohol...
His personal life was a train wreck.
I saw that tour with John Lodge of the Moody Blues, Asia, Yes and the “Carl Palmer ELP experience” in 1999...
I walked in and they were starting Fanfare for the Common Man and i got excited. I was bored to tears after five minutes and stood by the concessions until it was over and John Lodge started.
Abacab was pretty badass.
Love Peter Gabriel.
It’s just Collin’s used the MTV platform to shit on an American president.
Dropping it.
Yes, I read his book, and I had no idea it was that bad.
