ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has officially indicted the controversial self-proclaimed “Birdlady” after an Atlanta News First investigation into allegations she stole thousands of dollars from fans for tailgates that never occurred.
Carolyn Freeman, 65, is charged with one count of theft by deception for allegedly taking $14,155 from Kansas City Chiefs fan club members after “promising performance of services... to cater and provide a tailgate party event, which said accused did not intend to perform,” according to the indictment.
Freeman is scheduled to appear in Fulton County Superior Court for a bond plea and arraignment hearing on April 29, 2025.
“I want her to be stopped,” Atlanta-based Kansas City Chiefs fan club organizer Tammy Southwood told Atlanta News First Investigates. “I am glad the DA recognizes the severity of her actions. What she has done not only to our fan base, but to others definitely shows repetitive intent to defraud.”
Atlanta News First Investigates first reported on Freeman in October after several NFL fan groups accused her of sham tailgates and Super Bowl trips. The alleged incidents involved a Seattle Seahawks fan club in 2017 and a Chiefs fan club in 2024.
Freeman’s Oct. 30, 2024, arrest warrant said Freeman obtained $14,000 from about 300 fans to orchestrate a party for the Kansas City Chiefs-Atlanta Falcons game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sept. 22, but did not show up for the event and did not return the money.
Atlanta police arrested Freeman at the Dallas Cowboys-Atlanta Falcons game at Mercedes Benz Stadium on Nov. 3, 2024.
Southwood, an organizer for the Kansas City Chiefs Arrowhead South Georgia Chapter filed a police report with Atlanta Police on Oct. 7. Southwood said on game day, Freeman kept saying she was on her way, but...

Fani is on quite the roll bringing down the worst of the worst gang drug lords and such ...
I lived and worked in Georgia for four years (Columbus). The Falcons are an after thought. The day day after the biggest choke in SB history it was business as usual. If your fan base cannot carry 100 miles away in-state, you have issues.
I was just going to say “Freeman, Freeman, where have I heard that name before?”
My question: How hard is it to organize a tailgate party? Throw some beer into a truck bed, open the tailgate, grill some steaks, and voila. Never thought anyone would have to pay a caterer.
It sounds like something that would happen in Cleveland.
It’s the same for all the southern NFL franchises, most of the people in those areas moved from somewhere else, and still root for the those teams, like me, here in Dallas, but a Detroit Lions fan.
As a long suffering Dallas, Irving, Arlington, Frisco fan, I just don’t care anymore.
Why is this Fanass still allowed to practice law?
College football is king. Go Gators!
Basketball team is looking real good, too.
I’m hoping at least for the final four.
