A tiger and boar have been rescued together from a well after a wild chase in India.
Local media reported that the young tigress, which had been chasing the wild boar, accidentally fell into the hole, along with its prey, in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
The incident came to light when locals arrived to fetch water from the well in Pipariya Harduli village, which is within the Jikurai forest range.
Villagers promptly called authorities to retrieve the animals, which were struggling to keep their heads above water.
Video footage shows the duo being rescued by the Pench Tiger Reserve team from the water-filled pit.
A cot was lowered into the well using a rope, and both animals were pulled out with the help of a hydraulic machine.
The tiger and boar were unharmed and successfully released back into the forest.
According to the reserve's deputy director, Rajnish Kumar Singh, the rescue operation took four hours.
In a post on Instagram, the Pench National Park described the rescue mission as "one of the most challenging operations ever conducted" and "like no other".
Following the incident, wildlife officials urged farmers to cover or fence off open wells in forested areas.
I was expecting to read that those two animals were shot with a Sedation Dart and then pulled up out of the well. Maybe the animals understood that they were being rescued and didn’t offer much resistance. Yeah... No!
They were probably preoccupied with not drowning. If the well had been dry, that little piggy would have been spareribs in no time.
I wonder if that well is used for drinking water. Doesn’t look too great; might be for irrigation and livestock water.
An animal story with a nice ending, unlike Peanut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon.
Boaring! Lol
Good point. I’m glad that the tiger and bear were rescued...
But will their friendship survive?
Did they take up the chase again after being rescued?
About 15 years ago in Yellowstone National Park (winter time) some snowmobilers came across a moose that had broken through an ice topped river...it was stuck and was going to die.
The snowmobilers tied a rope to its horns and began helping the moose out. Instantly the moose realized what was happening and stopped resisting and the began working together — in unison — to free the moose.

Until a Park Ranger pulls a pistol and threatened to shoot the snowmobilers if they did not let ‘Mother Nature’ take its course.
Happily that Ranger was NOT on this scene in India...
Oh, that poor Moose. If looks could kill, that “by the book,” park ranger would have burst into flame like some wicked old Witch, and disappeared. Or at very least, his government issued jeep would have had it’s tires slashed.
It was a snowmobile...
Made a lot of folks VERY ANGRY here.
Sounds like an urban legend. I did a search for it and found nothing except stories about Rangers rescuing Moose.
Considering it was a boar not a bear, I doubt it very much. If they let them loose in the same place, as soon as the tiger got loose, she probably thought, "Well, that was interesting. Now, where were we...?"
I never would have believed that a pig could swim/paddle water to stay afloat.
There used to be an amusement park in San Marcos that featured a pig that would jump off a high dive and swim around the lake. Ralph the diving pig.
Now that’s funny!
My parents took us kids to see the pig jump back in the 1960’s.
What a great story, of you had pictures, they would be priceless!
“What’s that, girl? Timmy, a tiger, and a boar fell down the well?”
Yes, but our family had one camera. My parents reserved pictures for big family events. I guess I am glad I grew up in an era where very few things were photographed. Could have caused trouble later.
