Trump and Putin could meet this month, Kremlin says, as US envoy lands in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump could meet this month, although the first face-to-face encounter between a Russian and a US leader since 2021 could take longer to prepare, the Kremlin said on Wednesday.

-snip-

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the meeting in Riyadh was focused mostly on Russian-US bilateral ties but that it was also a “very, very important step” toward reaching a settlement on the Ukraine war, nearing the end of its third year.

“But this is the first step… Naturally, it’s impossible to fix everything in one day or a week. There is a long way to go,” Peskov said.

Asked if a meeting between Putin and Trump could take place this month, Peskov was quoted by Interfax as saying: “Possibly. And possibly not.”

‼️ Kellogg wants to have a “central talk” with zelensky in Kiev.

We’re reaching the point where zelensky and trump stop talking to each other directly and talk only through intermediaries.

The relations are collapsing.

I’m presuming they want to nail down whatever deal before they announce a summit to nail down said deal.

If Putin is losing popularity because of the thousands of lost fighters, wouldn’t it also be logical that Zelensky is losing popularity by sending his men into a meat grinder?

Wow! What a reunion that will be. Donald Chamberlain Trump rejoices to see his Master again. Perhaps the Master will allow his puppet to help plan the Red Square victory parade?

It's apparent zeepers/NeverTrumpers have received an updated list of talking points from the Kiev Institute of Propaganda.

Comparing President Trump to appeaser Neville Chamberlain is their new tactic.

"REVEREND"-mommy did so on Sunday...

---- "OOH I'm sooo scared!!"

Personally, I don't think you should be scared. You probably aren't anyway.

One of the tenets of freedom is that we can discern much. Your multiple "Chamberlain" slurs aimed at President Trump allow many to discern your stance. It is, at the minimum, parallel to those "Republicans" who campaigned against President Trump. It is, at the minimum, quite like an upcoming three-day conference in DC at which "never-Trumpers" and even Democrats are among the announced speakers.

So, don't be scared. Don't bother being ironic. There is no reason for fear. Your stance clarifies as you put your never-Trump foot deeper into your never-Trump mouth.

Proof In Fact that another "neverTrumper" has outed himself again.

It is entertaining to watch. Thanks for that entertainment.

“If Putin is losing popularity because of the thousands of lost fighters, wouldn’t it also be logical that Zelensky is losing popularity by sending his men into a meat grinder?”

Apparently not:

1. Dynamics of trust in President V. Zelenskyi in 2019-2025
Anton Hrushetskyi
https://www.kiis.com.ua/?lang=eng&cat=reports&id=1496&page=1

“President V. Zelenskyi retains a fairly high level of trust in society (in fact, for a democratic society to have a current trust indicator is a very good result!) and even more so retains legitimacy.

If some international partners and allies are worried about the legitimacy of the President in the context of possible peace negotiations and consider it appropriate to insist on elections, then from the point of view of Ukrainian citizens themselves, there are no problems with this, the current President and the authorities are quite legitimate to conduct complex negotiations, and elections should be held after the war ends and at least Ukraine receives reliable security guarantees.” (Excerpt)

2. Would Ukraine Elections See Zelensky Reelected? What Polls Say

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would have a strong chance at reelection if there was a vote according to recent polls conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).

Newsweek reached out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for comment via email.

Why It Matters

Zelensky has been a central figure in Ukraine’s resistance since Russia invaded in 2022. He was elected president in 2019 and would have faced reelection in 2024, but the country has been under martial law since the invasion. Zelensky has not said whether or not he will seek reelection as he continues to focus on the war. (Excerpt)

Why Putin needs a new Yalta: The conference meant compromise

“For Russian elites accustomed to thinking in historic cycles, a revised geopolitical compact, a Yalta 2.0, is therefore unsurprisingly long overdue. Not that we should think Putin is keen on just another power-grab. His famous 2005 quip that “the demise of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century” has been interpreted as a glib expression of Soviet nostalgia — but beneath the surface lurked a deeper fear. A new age had indeed arrived, but an updated balance of power to replace the Cold War order was never established, leaving Russia rudderless in wild geopolitical waters.” (Excerpt)

Republican legislators reject Trump’s claim to give in to Russia
2·20·2025 · 21:34
OUTONO.NET
https://www.outono.net/elentir/2025/02/20/republican-legislators-reject-trumps-claim-to-give-in-to-russia/

In recent days, the US president has made a series of unusual statements in line with the Kremlin’s theses.

-Trump offers Putin a clumsy excuse to regain the former Russian territory
-A Ukrainian parliamentary opposition deputy defends Zelensky against Trump

First Trump blamed Ukraine for the Russian invasion, for not wanting to make a deal with the invaders and accepting to lose territory. Yesterday he called Zelensky a “dictator”, something he has never said about Putin. Today it is news that The US opposes talking about “Russian aggression” in the G7 declaration on Ukraine. This irresponsible behavior of Trump, aligning the US with Putin’s Russia, has fed up many legislators of the Republican Party, to which the current US president belongs.

ON THURSDAY, REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN BRIAN FITZPATRICK POSTED A STATEMENT ON TWITTER in which he gave voice to other lawmakers in his party who are not happy about what Trump is doing with Ukraine. For its interest, I transcribe the full text of his statement here:

“President Volodymyr Zelenskyy need not, and must not, have any deal forced upon him by any outside nation that does not guarantee the security and the sovereignty of the Ukrainian people, the people who elected him with over 73% of the popular vote, in an election that was recognized as free and fair by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), where I served as a Commissioner and Congressional Appointee. Russia has never held such elections.

President Zelenskyy, and all negotiators, need to know this: There is an outcome-determinative number of Members of the United States Congress, from both parties and in both Chambers, who are ready, willing, and able to do whatever it takes to prevent Communist Dictator Vladimir Putin from being rewarded for his illegal invasion, raping, kidnapping, torturing and murdering of the Ukrainian people, including so many women and children. We will use every lever and every vote at our disposal, regardless of the personal or political consequences. This matter is that time-sensitive and it is that existential. It is legacy-defining.

We all want an immediate end to this brutal Russian invasion and killing. For a peace agreement to be fair and lasting, it must be done in a way that holds the Russian invaders accountable, protects the dignity of the Ukrainian victims, and provides for fair and equitable cost-sharing amongst all European nations. To do otherwise would be to encourage future invasions and to perpetuate future heartache and bloodshed.

This is about Peace Through Strength. This is about Patriotic Common Sense. And Patriotic Common Sense is what America must always stand for.”
