Another interesting video by Mark Felton.

And also pertinent given the current discussion about NATO’s readiness.

Sounds like a saying I used to hear when I was over in US Army Europe. I don’t know if it was true or not, but the saying was that there were more generals in Europe than there were machine gunners

2 aircraft carriers

6 destroyers

8 frigates

8 or 9 subs.

The Royal Navy has decent capabilities for its size, which isn’t much.

That’s just embarrassing. Our military is ridiculously top heavy and bloated with over forty 4 stars with a total military of about 1.3 million. For comparison’s sake we had 7 in World War II with a military over 10 times the size of our current one.

I thought the US Navy had this situation a number of years ago. 10 or so?

Good that islamists don’t have access to a useful navy.

We have 44 four star generals now. During WWII we had 5.

Elites like being generals but not so much being gunners.

One of the commenters at the YouTube link said that today’s Royal Navy is actually large enough to protect the home waters.

Just don’t expect it to project serious power anywhere else. Those days are gone.

Sounds about right.

Protection for the British Isles, and the capabilities to ‘thump’ a minor power in a limited dispute.

In any “big showdown” like WW2, they’ll be an auxiliary to the US Navy.

The U.S. Navy has the same problem. The same U.S. Naval Proceedings issue which lists the commissioned ships also has the pictures of all its admirals.

"the war between Russia and Ukraine seems to prove both are worthless in todays’ world."

Throw Europe into the mix as well, and you've got a winner.

In history, we have had one person be a five star general in two services in his career. Hap Arnold. (the Air Force one was somewhat symbolic as he was not on active rolls at the time IMO).

Here’s a little trivia question for you. Name the only American officer to hold the actual (not honorary or equivalent) rank of Field Marshal.

.

Douglas MacArthur was a field marshal in the Philippine Army.

I’m not sure.

I try to use my memory on subjects, before looking up information.
