Harsh weather moved west on Monday as a polar vortex was expected to grip the Rockies and the northern Plains after winter storms pummeled the eastern U.S. over the weekend, killing at least 10 people, including nine victims in Kentucky who died during flooding from heavy rains.
The National Weather Service warned of “life-threatening cold” into Tuesday, with temperatures in northeastern Montana predicted to dip as low as 45 degrees below zero (-42.7 degrees Celsius) with wind chills down to 60 below (-51 degrees Celsius).
Meteorologists said several states would experience the 10th and coldest polar vortex event this season. Weather forces in the Arctic are combining to push the chilly air that usually stays near the North Pole into the U.S. and Europe.

polar vortex event
Another cold front is coming through?
Somewhere, there is a guy thinking:” Polar Vortex? That sounds like my first marriage!”
LOL
I know... We now must use convoluted and hopefully frightening terms to describe... weather. What a world. What we used to call ‘The Pineapple Express’ (a stream of storms from the tropical pacific) now must be referred to as an “Atmospheric River”. People don’t know how to have FUN anymore....
Oh my God...it’s.....it’s.....WINTER!
Yep. About time for the Siberian Express to roll through.
In went for a 5 mile walk at a -14 this morning.
Too funny!!
Brave soul
-13° minneapolis.
and it’s just a Winter Storm and the polar vortex crowd are on drugs uppers maybe ,LOL
Up until I had heart problems at 64.
When I was a hard core runner.
I ran until it got to -32F.
I ran many miles in temps approaching that.
I don’t believe humans control or change the climate. If the climate does change, it’s a natural process, and the sun is the big culprit. Lastly, if a change is occurring, it’s an Ice Age, not Global Warming.
They call it “climate change” and “global warming,” but I simply call it winter.
With a 5 mile walk you probably got pretty warm after about the first 10 minutes. When I was younger I did a lot of cross country skiing and the first 10 minutes were hard because I was cold; after that I warmed up and was toasty warm all day.
“Several dead…” this doesn’t look good.
Did anyone die going to the “Ice Bowl” game?
