The U.S. transport Arago, Henry A. Gadsden, commanding, from Port Royal S.C., at 2 P.M. Saturday, Feb. 11, via Fortress Monroe Feb. 14, consigned to Brevet Brig.-Gen. STEWART VAN VLIET, Quartermaster U.S.A., New-York, arrived at this port at 2:30 P.M yesterday afternoon.

On the evening of the 11th, when off Charleston, saw and heard very sharp and continuous firing.

Monday, Feb. 13, lat. 35° 50′, long. 75° 17′, passed screw steamships Ceres and Prometheus, bound South.

SHERMAN'S RIGHT WING.

OUR HILTON HEAD CORRESPONDENCE.

Gen. Sherman's Advance--Passage of the Salkehatchie--Gen. Gillmore Succeeds Foster--The Cotton Fleet.

HILTON HEAD, Friday, Feb. 10, 1865.

The latest intelligence from the right wing of SHERMAN's army is to the effect that it was slowly but steadily advancing in the direction of Charleston. On the 3d inst., the Seventeenth Corps led the column in crossing the Salkehatchie River. A strong force of rebel pickets was posted on the north bank, and offered some resistance to the Union movement. A skirmish ensued, which, however, was of short duration, and which resulted in the complete dispersion of the enemy. He left his dead on the field. The position thus taken was the strongest yet discovered between Savannah and the Salkehatchie. The works were mounted with field pieces, which the enemy succeeded in getting off on his retreat. Our casualties numbered about eighty; the enemy's not so many. The Union wounded were taken to the Beaufort hospitals the first of the week. Since the movement over the Salkehatchie, we have not heard of any fighting on the right portion of the line, although it does not seem possible that the column can advance much further without effecting some very important results.

Sherman’s movement toward Charleston was a faint. He marched to Columbia and burned it down.
