WASHINGTON, Tuesday, Feb. 14.
It is stated that the substance of a dispatch from Gen. GRANT to the Government, received to-day, is that Richmond papers of Monday say SHERMAN has crossed the Edisto, which was the line held by Gen. HARDEE, defending Branchville. According to the same rebels authority a portion of SHERMAN's forces are two-thirds of the way from the Edisto to Columbia, the Capital of the State of South Carolina, and an important point, forming the junction of the Charlottes and South Carolina and the Greenville and Columbia Railroads, which connect with the railroads to Richmond.
ANOTHER DISPATCH.
PHILADELPHIA, -- Tuesday, Feb. 14.
The Bulletin has the following dispatch from Washington:
"Richmond papers of the 13th inst., announce the tapping of the railroads by Gen. SHERMAN north of Branchville, and between Kingville and Branchville, thus destroying every road centering at Branchville.

From the Richmond Dispatch, Feb. 11.
The Edisto River rises in the southwestern portion of South Carolina, and flowing southwestwardly, empties into the Atlantic forty miles southwest of Charleston. Branchville is on the Augusta branch of the South Carolina Railroad, a mile east of the point at which the railroad crosses the Edisto. This river is now the line held by Gen. HARDEE, in the neighborhood of Branchville. Nearer the coast, we hold the line of the Combahee River, in the vicinity of the Charleston and Savannah Railroad.
From the most recent authentic intelligence, it appears that while a part of SHERMAN's army is making active demonstrations against the Combahee Ferry near the Charleston and Savannah Railroad, as if with the design of marching on Charleston, the rest of his forces have appeared at four points on the Edisto, viz.: at New-Bridge, five miles below Branchville; at Bumacker's and Holman's bridges, above,
