Ford F-150 unseated by Toyota RAV 4 as America's top seller per report

The Ford F-150 pickup truck is no longer America's top selling vehicle according to a new Forbes report citing data from automotive data and analysis from JATO Dynamics.

After 40 years at the top of the list, Forbes states data from JATO Dynamics shows the Toyota RAV 4 is the new top-selling vehicle in the United States. The SUV sold 475,193 units in 2024, topping Ford F-150's 460,915 units sold. The swap reflects an increase of 9% in sales for the RAV 4 compared to a decrease of 5% of the popular pickup.

The Honda CRV ranked third in sales, followed by the Tesla Model Y, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Rogue, Honda Civic, and GMC Sierra 1500 rounding out the top ten per JATO Dynamics data.

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) shares sold for about $25 apiece in early 2022. Recently, they dropped near their 52-week low of $9.10. What was a promising move into electric vehicles (EVs) has turned out to be multi-billion-dollar losses. Its sales and profits in China, the world’s largest car market, are shaky. CEO Jim Farley said, “So far, what we’re seeing is a lot of cost and a lot of chaos,” referring to tariffs and the new administration’s plans to help U.S. manufacturers.

RAV 4 is an SUV, not a pick-up truck..

I used to own several RAV 4s and while they are a great vehicle, they are not in the same class as the F-150 {which I've driven.}

It's comparing apples to bananas or coconuts, makes no sense.

Compare trucks to trucks and SUVs to SUVs and they both win, in their own lane.

Just another bullshit article written by a 'reporter' with the brains of a gnat.

NONE of these autos are worth anywhere near the (insane) asking price.

All of these vehicles are 25% over priced due to various regulations and requirements.

A service based economy does not need many pickup trucks. Try to find something Made in USA in Walmart.
SUV’s are more apropos in a service based economy. I love my Chevy Trax SUV. I can haul a large recliner home from store with the hatchback design.

Ring me up when you can shove ten sheets of plywood into your RAV-4.

Until then, it’s the old paid-for Silverado.

I won’t buy a Toyota unless it has at least 200K miles. Otherwise, it’s just not economical.

With over 40 mil. Corollas sold, using similar components - many of which are interchangeable and being easy to work on its the most economical vehicle.

Got my current one at 200K. Needed some work but all operator-level stuff. 1.8s are my favorite. Some of the 2.4s had issues and a bit shorter lifespan.

“NONE of these autos are worth anywhere near the (insane) asking price.”

It’s insane, isn’t it — the price of new cars? During the last 15 years, we’ve bought two used at Carmax, and have been very happy. The most recent one is a RAV4, which has been great.

RAV 4 is an SUV, not a pick-up truck.....................

It's a frickin' hatchback. Real SUVs have frames.

I'd buy a Ford is they had a two-door full bed F-150, no frills, no digital, you know,
just a pickup truck. Evidently that is too complicated for them to produce. Crew cab?
No thanks.

How true. Now if they said the Tundra outsold the F150, it would be news. I don’t think we’ll see too many contractors hauling cement blocks around in RAV 4’s, or farmers hauling hay bails around in them either.

What’s interesting is we live in oil country. The most common oil field vehicle is the F250, followed by a similar version of Ram, and an occasional Chevy. I’ve never seen a Toyota truck used by a drilling or roustabout crew.

Entry level is now 2025 Ford F-150 XL 2WD Reg Cab 8’ Box. Problem is the $40K or so price tag, maybe some less from a dealer who sells a bunch for commercial use.

Just In: Top spot In US auto sales given to Toyota over the Ford F150. US consumers unanimously agree they would rather have the more powerful, roomier Ford F150 over the Breadboxes on Wheels built by Toyota. Adult drivers in America say they would prefer vehicles which don’t require you to slather butter all over your body to be able to squeeze into them. But thanks to the idiotic policies of the Biden administration, runaway inflation, excessive regulations, non existent job opportunities. And soaring fuel prices have Dethroned Ford F150’s.
Let’s Go Brandon !

The best deal was the Pontiac Vibe. Toyota quality at a GM price.
