WASHINGTON, Sunday, Feb. 12.

From full files of Richmond papers of Friday, the 10th inst., received to-night at the Washington office of the Philadelphia Inquirer, we make the following extracts:

From the Richmond Sentinel, Feb. 10.

In response to a published can a vast throng assembled at the African Church, yesterday at noon, to consider the state of the country, and the duties of the present hour. On opening the doors the spacious building was quickly crammed, and a large multitude was unable to gain admission. It is much to be regretted that the state of the weather prevented holding the meeting in Capitol-square, as was first intended. The assemblage was called to order by Hon. R.M.T. HUNTER. A fervent prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. HOGE. We attempt only a synoptical sketch of the speeches.

SPEECH OF MR. HUNTER.

Mr. HUNTER, on taking the chair, explained in a speech at some length the object and purpose for which the meeting had been convened. The most momentous issues address our attention that ever engaged the solicitude of any people. Our form of government, our social system and framework, protection of life, liberty and property, are all involved, and are all at stake. God grant us the wisdom and the energy that our situation requires. We are not responsible, said Mr. HUNTER, for the war which has raged for four years, and for the blood which has been shed. Our skirts are clear. We have contended only for the right of self-government. This ought to have been as dear to our enemies as to us; for it is an American principle, and by education and tradition they bad been admonished to respect it. They ought to have united with us in cherishing and maintaining it;
