Melting down over DOGE
American Thinker ^ | 12 Feb, 2025 | Jack Hellner

It is astonishing what the media and other Democrats get outraged about and what they don’t.

In FY 2024, the U.S. had an almost $2 trillion deficit, almost 7% of the total GDP, in a supposedly good economy. Total debt is over $36 trillion, and our economy has a GDP of less than $30 trillion, which includes massive amounts of government spending. Total federal spending in FY 2019, before COVID was $4.4 trillion. Today it is around $7 trillion, up over 50% while inflation is up a little over 20%. So, government spending is up two- and one-half times inflation. Due to COVID and the intentional closing of a significant amount of the private economy, there was a lot of (manufactured) emergency spending in FY 2020. The problem is the Biden administration and Congress never rolled back emergency spending. They just kept increasing everything.

The massive $36 trillion debt falls on both parties, because politicians in both parties passed the spending, yet spent very little time reviewing how all the money is spent. The trajectory we are on is extremely dangerous for this and future generations.

I am 72 this year and for the first time in my lifetime we have a president who is going to go through the entire executive branch budget with a fine-toothed comb to see how the money is being spent. He is very transparent. I would think that the media would be happy with the transparency so they could see how the money is spent. Sadly, most of the media seem to prefer keeping the details secret from the public.

Most of the media, a few judges, and other Democrats, think the president has no say in how executive branch agencies spend the money once it is appropriated. That is nuts and why

The COVID Recovery funds get put into the CR every year since that was introduced. Why do we have to spend that every year?

False headline.

“The massive $36 trillion debt falls on both parties”?

The massive $XXX trillion debt is heaped on “free” citizens to pay at the point of a gun via the IRS.

The riches accumulate to individuals of both parties and those in their orbit of cronies.

Sadly, most of the media seem to prefer keeping the details secret from the public.

That's because most of the media are (in some cases paid) government stooges, and they don't want the details exposed any more than the FedGov and the criminals in congress (on both sides of the aisle).

You can tell how effective DOGE is by how loudly and unhinged the left scream about it

Musk should come put and say something oike that to the press, on national tv, to expose the corruption of the left and their nervousness about being discovered. Then say “me thinks the lady doth protest too much... what are they hiding? What are they so nervous about? If they have nothing to hide, why all the hysterics?”

I saw a report that there was an authorization for spending $22 billion for studying climate resilience on Mars!

Pres Trump didn’t let on, but the threat to him by Iran was way worse than people realized. He even had to fly in a decoy plane it got so bad. Yet he still went out every day to campaign-

The left wou,d have hid nail election day had Iran threatened them like they did pres Trump. Pres Trump is a real patriot who loves this nation and counted the risks and decided that fighting for its future despite the severe risk was well worth it!

I give them points for imagination.

It is not easy coming up with reasons to spend literally millions on made of whole cloth reasons.

They likely had contests to see who could come up with the most absurd names of projects.

Weather on Mars is pretty good!

“The massive $36 trillion debt falls on both parties”?

That is the origin of the ‘uniparty’.

Between the inception of the various aid programs and the stated recipients, there is a pipeline populated by many people who know how to access funds and to do so with impunity.

THESE are the people I want to see named and standing in front of a judge. It's probably unlikely we'll ever see this money recovered, but it's important to expose and prosecute people who so freely helped themselves to money.

I half believe that programs could have been suggested and set up without any intention of dispersing funds to stated recipients. What a convenient and effortless way for unscrupulous and wholly dishonorable people to divert funds with impunity. At this point, nothing would surprise or shock me.

I am remembering how Liberals screamed for Trump's tax records and I'd like to see that kind of demand made for access to tax records of people who took advantage of the USAID and other programs to enrich themselves at the expense of US taxpayers!

I did hear that he was in a decoy plane. It’s pretty bad. We pray for him and his people every day.

“Why didn’t anyone go through the budget before this?”

Because they knew what was in there, and didn’t want people to find out?

I watched a program on Mars. They said that the northern polar ice cap is made up of dry ice, and is -19 degrees!

It was called “A Day on Mars”. Informative (for me).

This entire DOGE thing is a BRILLIANT move by Team Trump. It’s forced the Dems into defending the indefensible. This is a losing hand for them and they should’ve folded; instead, they’ve doubled down. The ramifications of this will effect them for quite some time.

As informative and useful as that information may be, I cannot accept paying 22 Billion (B) for it.

Punishment for criminals is not nearly severe enough to be a deterrent.

We need prisons without TVs, air conditioning and no hard labor.

The media and other Democrats are whining about unelected bureaucrats searching for waste, fraud, and abuse...

Nobody in the Executive branch is elected except the President.

What about the "unelected" lobbyists who actually write the bills that are passed in Congress?

It’s time to label the Democrats and their co-conspirators in the media for what they are on this issue: pro government waste, fraud and abuse as they daily oppose DOGE to protect themselves, their constituents and their power structure.
