Officials revealed the cause of the Arizona plane crash that killed a pilot onboard a private jet owned by Mötley Crüe lead singer Vince Neil and injured three others Monday. A landing gear failure on the Learjet 35A owned by the rock star caused the aircraft to ram into a parked Gulfstream 200 after touching down at Scottsdale Airport, officials said in a release from the City of Scottsdale. “According to initial reports, the Learjet’s left main landing gear failed upon landing, leading to the collision,” the statement reads.

Answered a lot more quickly than the DC crash.
I watched the crash video.
I don’t believe that I would have stayed in the pilot’s seat knowing what was coming.
And once I heard that the a/c was belly sliding I knew what was coming, as did the pilot once it left the runway.
Juan Browne at the Blanco Lirio channel did an initial analysis. The Learjet L35 is an older aircraft (this one was manufactured in 1989) that is increasingly difficult to maintain. The left main landing gear on the incident aircraft had previously experienced a failure. Mapping of ADS-B data shows the rate of descent on the visual approach was significantly higher than normal. Pilot got too high on approach and made a big correction close in. Possibly a hard landing that broke off the gear at its attachment point to the aircraft.

I think most pilots would hang onto the yoke until the plane stops. Not much time to unbuckle. That and he had passengers that could of been killed if the jet went sideways into the other aircraft.
No matter the situation, the pilot is a hero for sticking with it.
People know. It’s obvious.
That happened in Dale Jr’s crash. Pilot Debrief u tube channel did a story on that crash a couple days ago.
Came in to hot. Plane caught fire and almost burnt them all up.
Or the motive of the New Orleans Islamic terrorist.
Approach to Scottsdale airport is pretty easy.
A bit surprised he had to push the landing.
Investigation is a lot easier when the planes are largely intact, only one was moving and you don’t have the military declaring everything top secret.

So do we automatically blame Lear, like what happens with Boeing, or do we ask who did the maintenance on that aircraft?
37 years in aviation maintenance and 17 of that in Quality control, in my experience it was usually one of two things.....maintenance or pilot/crew error respectively.
Outliers included birds strikes and believe it or not sabotage.
The crew had a long duty day, with the landing at Scottsdale the last. One possibility is the PIC was fatigued and lost concentration. The investigation will pinpoint the causes.
A work of art was almost destroyed by flying junkyard.
Always the landing gear isn’t it.
