Technically, it’s an elliptical office.

A democracy is a political system in which the people periodically, by majority vote at the polls, select their rulers. The rulers then have absolute power to make whatever laws they please, by majority vote among themselves.

In a constitutional Republic, the people also, by majority vote at the polls, select rulers, who make laws by majority vote among themselves; but the rulers cannot make any laws they please because the Constitution severely restricts their lawmaking power.

The ideal of a democracy is universal equality. The ideal of a constitutional Republic is individual liberty.

In this century, great strides have been made toward the goal of subverting our Republic and transforming it into a democracy. One tactic of the subverters is subversion of language. By calling the United States a democracy until people thoughtlessly accept and use the term, totalitarians have obscured the real meaning of our principles of government.

Dan Smoot Report, 1966
I would prefer a Republic to either a democracy or a bureaucracy.

This is what the Deep State is: a bureaucracy, its beneficiaries, and its defenders.

Under normal circumstances I would agree that decorum would ask for that, but since this hat is basically the symbol of Trump’s entire campaign, I think a little grace can be given here.

The United States of America is a Constitutional Republic.
Do they even teach this in school anymore?
Ya gotta wonder...

Our Nation is a Republic, NOT a Democracy. Our Founding Fathers set it up as a Republic, but only works if the elected officials vote the will of the people. They don’t.

The vast majority of Republics eventually fail because of corruption.

In ninth-grade civics class back in 1984, the teaching was that the USA was a “representative democracy”.

After that, I don’t know what high schools were teaching.

In the early 70’s, at least where I went to grade school, we were taught the U.S.A. is a Constitutional Republic (social studies class).

Plus at home....my parents made sure to drill it into us. My parents were/are very conservative Christians.

Even today, my Mother was yelling on the phone to me how sick she is of hearing people say we’re a democracy....LOL. She said people are just dumb and don’t even know what form of government we have and shouldn’t vote since they don’t know.
